Paul Banovich, Sr. of Brookfield, Ohio passed away unexpectedly of an apparent heart attack at 1:52 p.m. Monday, October 12, 2015, in the emergency room of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 78. Mr. Banovich was born March 19, 1937, in Jefferson Township, (Washington County), PA, a son of Adam and Pauline Garnich Banovich. He was reared in Burgettstown, PA and was a 1955 graduate of Burgettstown High School. Paul was a lifelong over-the-road truck driver and an active member of Teamsters, Local # 261, for 46 years. During retirement, he continued to meet with his fellow truck drivers twice weekly for breakfast. Paul enjoyed gardening and was a lifelong fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers. He loved spending time with his granddaughters, who affectionately called him Pap Pap, and supporting them in their athletic events while they were playing for Hickory High School. His wife, the former Virginia Mae Stuck, whom he married July 12, 1958, passed away September 29, 2009. Surviving are: a daughter, Cynthia Chess and her husband Edward, Hermitage; three sons, Paul Banovich, Jr., Warren, Ohio; David Banovich, Brookfield, Ohio; and Timothy Banovich, Virginia Beach, VA; four grandchildren, Paul Joseph Banovich, Angela Marie Whiting, Emily Christine Chess and Megan Lynn Chess; 5 great grandchildren; three sisters; and a brother. Besides his wife, Paul was preceded in death by his parents. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to a charity of the donor's choice. There are no calling hours. A private memorial service will be held in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.
