Patrick Mastrian, formerly of Hamilton Ave., Farrell, passed away at 1:52 p.m. Thursday, April 25, 2019, in St. John XXIII Home, Hermitage. He was 96.

Mr. Mastrian was born July 22, 1922, in Farrell, a son of the late Daniel Mastrian, Sr. and Adeline (Cipriano) Mastrian.

He was a 1940 graduate of Farrell High School and worked at the former C. Tennent Grip Lock Strapping Co. in Warren, Ohio from 1940 to 1947. During this time and many years after, he served as a member of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania State Council of Civil Defense.

Pat married the former Josephine "Peppy" Lombardo on June 27, 1942, in the former St. Anthony's Church in Farrell.

He was employed for 37 years at the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. where he was a Group Leader and Union Steward. Following his retirement in 1984, he continued to work as a consultant at Westinghouse for a couple of years.

Pat was a lifelong charter member of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Farrell, where he was as an usher and was a member of the Holy Name Society since 1943. He served as its vice president and treasurer for many years and was named "Man of the Year" in 1997. He was also a charter member and past treasurer of the Bethony Club and a member of the St. Vincent Society. Always willing to help the less fortunate, he delivered tur keys and Christmas baskets to the needy until two years ago when he could no longer drive.

Pat was an Institutional representative for the Boy Scouts of America, Troop 27, in Farrell during the 1960's. For 18 years, he coached Little League, Babe Ruth and American Legion baseball in Farrell. He was a former member of the Kennedy Christian High School Boosters and was instrumental in helping with the installation of the wood floor in the high school gymnasium and the construction of Butala Stadium. He was also the clock operator for the Kennedy Christian boys basketball team during the 1980's and 90's.

Pat was an avid outdoorsman and traveled multiple times to Oregon and North Dakota on hunting trips. He took 14 trips to Alaska to fish for salmon with his nephews, Anthony, Don and Jackie Rotell, whom he also taught to hunt. He enjoyed hunting locally with his pal, Pat Sabo, and cherished his time fishing and bowling with his oldest and dearest friends, Ernie Laslow and Chester Krokowski. He was treasurer for the Sunset Senior Bowling League until it dissolved.

Pat enjoyed traveling with his wife and family to Canada for more than fifty years. In addition to Canada, he enjoyed traveling all over the United States with his wife, particularly to Las Vegas. He also enjoyed watching all of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren's scholastic and athletic events. When a family member was not performing, he could be seen watching other local high school sporting events. The traditional family Christmas Eve gathering was also a special time in the Mastrian household.

Pat was very proud of his garden tomatoes, pizzelle cookies and homemade sausage, which he lovingly shared with family and friends.

He was a member of the Christopher Columbus Benevolent Society and the Italian Home in Farrell.

Surviving are: a daughter, Patricia Nezovich and her husband Thomas, of Parma, Ohio; three sons, Daniel Mastrian and his wife Mary Ann, of Bel Air, MD; Anthony Mastrian and his wife Linda, of Clark, Pa.; and Patrick Mastrian and his wife Diane, of Hermitage; nine grandchildren, Peter Nezovich and his wife Jennifer, Faith Nezovich and her partner Sam Mazzola, Dan Mastrian and his wife Nina, Stacey Mastrian, Tony Mastrian and his wife Katie, Nick Mastrian and his fiancé Meagan Fogel, Leah Lapushan and her husband Kenn, Patrick Mastrian and his wife Sandra and Vinnie Mastrian and his partner Katie Patton; and 7 great grandchildren, Spencer, Sadie, Laila, Natasha, Mia, Eva and Korina. He also leaves a sister, Jean Sabol, of Farrell; sisters-in-law, Rose Latsko, also of Farrell and Mary Manilla and a brother-in-law, William Lombardo, both who are residing at St. John XXIII Home.

Besides his parents, Pat was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Josephine "Peppy" Mastrian; five sisters, Elvira Rotell (Frank), Yolanda Campisano (Fred), Margaret Fahr (John), Florence Vasko (George) and Adeline Marks (Richard); three brothers, Andrew Mastrian (Marie), Daniel Mastrian and infant Andrew Mastrian; brothers-in-law, John Sabol, Tom Latsko, Ben Manilla, Albert "Cookie" Lombardo and Norman Lombardo (Angeline).

Pat provided many life lessons for everyone to follow, but none more meaningful than the lifelong love that he showed to his loving wife, Josephine, especially during the later years of her life.

The family would like to thank everyone at St. John XXIII Home, especially the personal care nurse's and nurse's aides. Thanks also to Dr.'s Petrucci and D'Auria for the care they provided and special thanks to Pat's brother-in-law, William Lombardo, for his care and companionship during Pat's stay at St. John XXIII Home.

Calling hours will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, April 28, 2019, in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Monday, April 29, 2019, in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Farrell, with Rev. Matthew Ruyechan, pastor, as celebrant.

Interment: St. Anthony's Cemetery, Hermitage.
