Obituary

Patrick Eugene 'Gene' Hannon, New Castle, passed away peacefully at 10:40 p.m. Friday evening in Jameson Hospital following an extended illness. He was 81.

He was born on March 4, 1930 in New Castle the son of Daniel Joseph and Elizabeth Mulvy Hannon .

A lifelong area resident, he attended New Castle Schools.

Gene began working for his father at D.J Hannon and Sons at the age of 17 and eventually became a co owner along with his brothers, he retired in 1990.

He and his wife maintained two homes, one in New Castle, and the other in Aiken, South Carolina . He was an avid sports fan and his favorite teams were the Pittsburgh Pirates, and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He attended both the First Assembly of God, New Castle, and the South Aiken Church of God in South Carolina.

His wife the former Shirley Orres whom he married on July 25, 1959 survives at home. He is also survived by a son Patrick Eugene Hannon II and his wife Kimberly A., New Castle, three daughters, Shirleen E. Barclay and her husband Douglas S. of Aiken SC, Colleen M. Hannon, New Castle, and Ronda L Hannon, Youngstown, a sister, Dorothy Criswell, Bradenton, Florida, four grandchildren, Matthew S. and Lauren E. Barclay, Tyler J. and Aleah N. Hannon. Also surving are two sister-in-laws Dorothy Hannon and Jackie Hannon.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and step mother, Ellen M. McGowan Hannon, four brothers, D. Joseph, Jack 'Oscar', Donald G., and William Hannon, two sisters, Mary Catherine McEwen and Betty Hannon, and his two grandchildren, Angel M. and Alexandra S. Hannon. Also preceded by two sister-in-laws Lucielle and Helen Hannon and two brother-in-laws Jess Criswell and Gaylord McEwen.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today and from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. tomorrow at the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory Inc. 111 W. Falls St.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. tomorrow at First Assmebly of God. The Rev. Chad Stoecker of First Assembly of God and Rev. Bruce Fox of South Aiken Church of God, SC will officiate.
