Obituary

Patrick Francis Dever, originally of Sharon, passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at Angela Hospice in Livonia, Michigan. He was 55.

Patrick was born on October 16, 1968, in Sharon, a son of John E. Dever and Patricia K. Dever. Patrick, the youngest of six children, was born with Down Syndrome and lived a happy and full life. He attended Wengler Elementary School and West Hill Elementary School in Sharon. As his father was transferred by Westinghouse and ABB, Patrick attended school in Muncie, Indiana and completed his education at Western Hills School, Moon Township, Pennsylvania. Upon his father's retirement in 1993 and their move back to Sharpsville, Patrick chose at the age of 25 to semi-retire as well (a move both humorous and profound). Patrick attended Whole Life Services in Sharon on a part-time basis until he and his parents moved to Valencia, Pennsylvania in 2010.

Patrick enjoyed traveling (though not by plane), and he and his parents made many trips to visit Pat's siblings, nieces, and nephews. Pat and his father were regulars at McDonald's for hotcakes and sausage, and after his father's death in 2011, Pat and his mother were a dynamic duo. After moving to Valencia, Pat participated in TRY social activities as well as the Lifesteps program in Butler.

Patrick is best remembered for his joyous laughter and wit. He wanted everyone to be happy and enjoyed humorous banter. He liked to tease with a twinkle in his eye and sly smile on his face. Pat's greatest enjoyments were old TV shows and movies, as well as popular songs from the 80s. He was an expert on remembering actors' roles and lines, and his favorite films were the Back to the Future trilogy – accordingly, his wardrobe was predominated by shirts featuring BTTF.

In 2021, Patrick moved to live with his sister Peg and his brother-in-law Harold in Michigan. Even as his health started to fail, Pat continued to enjoy life and set an example of joie de vivre and resiliency for all of us to follow. Patrick had a profound impact on his family and everyone who had the good fortune to know him.

Patrick was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Sharon as a youth and then St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, Sharpsville when he returned to the Valley.

In addition to his mother, Patricia K. Dever, Patrick is survived by his siblings John 'Jack' (Anne) Dever, South Charleston, West Virginia; Michael (Julie) Dever, Munhall, Pennsylvania; Margaret 'Peg' (Harold) Tynes, West Bloomfield, Michigan; Thomas (Ronda) Dever, Bethesda, Maryland; and Mary (Leonard) Pekor, Murrysville, Pennsylvania; ten nieces and nephews, John Dever and Jeanie (Ryan) Walter; Margee and Maeve Dever; Michael (Kathleen) and Peter (Betsy) Tynes; Nora and Rose Dever; and Matthew and John Pekor. Patrick is also survived by four great nieces and a great nephew.
