Obituary

Patricia "Patti" Smith, 79, of Farrell, passed away Friday evening, April 25, 2025, in UPMC Passavant-McCandless Hospital, Pittsburgh. Patti was sharp, she was witty, and she loved immeasurably, leaving a lasting impression on anyone who had the pleasure of meeting her. Her passing will be felt deeply by anyone that knew her, as knowing her truly was to love her.

Patti was born on August 18, 1945, in Sharon, a daughter of the late Joseph and Clementine (Kostra) Soltes. She was a 1963 graduate of Sharpsville High School and faithfully attended her monthly classmate dinners.

A dedicated homemaker, Patti was a member of St. Bartholomew Church, Sharpsville, and was proud and honored to be on their Altar Rosary Society.

Throughout her lifetime, she worked at Packard Electric, Warren, OH; as a hostess and in the gift shop of Tara- A Country Inn, Clark; a server in the restaurant of the former J.C. Penny in the Shenango Valley Mall; a mobile route deliverer for the Sharon Herald; and locally for the U.S. Census Bureau.

Patti was also a member of the Wheatland American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Post #432, and the Sharpsville Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post #6404, where she served on the board of the Ladies Auxiliary.

She enjoyed crossword puzzles and playing bingo. She loved her sweets - especially donuts - and would often opt for a dessert over dinner. Patti dedicated much of her time to supporting her family, with devoted attendance to sporting events, performances, and concerts. She relaxed by watching television, and closely followed American Idol, Days of Our Lives, and loved her Pittsburgh Steelers.

She is survived by two daughters, Sherri Cox (Chris), of Greenville, PA, and Kristy Maynard, of Cochranton, PA; a son, Brian Smith (Aimee), of Hubbard, OH; 11 grandchildren, Claudia, Chloe, Hunter and Camilla Cox; Madison, Dylan and C.J. Maynard; Janae Amis (Jake); and Dalton (Merrissa), Derrek (Ashley), and Dayne (Miranda) Smith; and six great-grandchildren, Vinny, Giovanna and Gino Amis; and Elliana, Maddox and Emmett Smith. Also surviving are three sisters, Jean Marie Murray, of Florida, Elaine Bakmaz (Marko), of Cincinnati, OH, and Sandy Byerly (Bob), of Hermitage; and many nieces and nephews, whom she dearly loved and treated as her own children.

In addition to her parents, Patti was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Chris Maynard; twin infant siblings, Kathleen and Albert Soltes; a brother-in-law, James Murray; two nephews, Tommy and Jerry Murray; and a niece, Missy Kurelko.
