Oscar C. “Ocky” Mehler, 79, of Sharpsville, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes late Thursday morning, March 26, 2026, in the emergency room of Sharon Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Mehler was born August 3, 1946, in Sharon, a son of the late Robert C. and Catherine E. (Stanton) Mehler. After graduating from West Middlesex High School in 1964, he later completed several courses at the American Institute of Banking.
Ocky began his banking career at Merchants and Manufacturers National Bank, ultimately becoming Mellon Bank in Hermitage. In 1980, he took the position of assistant Vice President of First National Bank in Hermitage. Ocky remained with the bank for more than 28 years, retiring as Vice President in 2008.
Ocky was a member of the Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage, where he served on the Church Finance Council, and for many years, as a Eucharistic Minister.
An active presence in the local community, he served on the board of directors at the Community Food Warehouse of Mercer Co., served as an advisor for Mercer Co. Junior Achievement, was a member of the Hickory Rotary, and was a longtime member of Sharon Country Club, now Avalon Country Club.
An avid reader, Ocky also enjoyed spending time outdoors playing golf or tending to his yard.
The love of his life and wife of 56 years, Carol (Amon) Mehler, whom he married on May 24, 1969, survives at home.
Ocky is also survived by a brother, Robert E. Mehler, Masury, OH; two sisters-in-law, Betty Simko (Nick) and Shirley Gotch, all of Hermitage; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Ocky was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Lisa Marie Mehler; and three sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Bates, Carol A. Mehler, and Terry Mehler.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be directed to Buhl Park, 715 Hazen Rd., Hermitage, PA 16148, or the Church of Notre Dame, 2325 Highland Rd., Hermitage, PA 16148.
Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday (3-31-26) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday (4-1-26) in the Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage, with Rev. John Miller, as celebrant.
Interment: St. Rose Cemetery, Hermitage.
