Nunzio Joseph Merlo of Masury, Ohio, formerly of Niles, passed away Tuesday, December 6, 2016, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 49.

Mr. Merlo was born March 26, 1967, in Warren, Ohio, a son of Nunzio A. Merlo and Mary Alice (Weilacker) Merlo. He attended Gordon James Career Center and graduated from Niles McKinley High School. After graduation he earned his CDL from New Castle School of Trades. Nunzio drove for many different trucking companies. He proudly served his country in peace time in the Marine Corp.

He was a former member of the Church of the Sacred Heart, Sharon and currently attending Church of Norte Dame, Hermitage. Nunzio volunteered at Shenango Valley Senior Center, and was part of the chorus for Shenango Valley Senior Follies. He also enjoyed gardening, tinkering with old cars and cooking.

Surviving are: his parents of Niles; his wife, the former Kimberly Hoppe, whom he married October 22, 2016; his three daughters, Jessica Merlo, FL; Racheal Merlo, FL; and Angel Bungard, OH; his son, Bryant Merlo, OH; two step daughters, Chelsey Glatfelter, Pittsburgh; and Elysia Abraham, MI; step son, Eric Matusky, MI; a sister, Mary Teresa Delgado, Columbus, OH; a granddaughter, Emma Bungard; five step grandchildren, Gabrielle, Kaleb, Lucas, Taylor and Jacob; and nephew, Dominic Delgado.

The family suggest memorials may be made to the Shenango Valley Senior Center, 220 N. Buhl Farm Dr., Hermitage, PA 16148.

Calling hours are Sunday, December 11, 2016 from 1 to 4 p.m. in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 1090 E. State St., Sharon.

Funeral mass will be 11:30 a.m. Monday, December 12, 2016, in Church of Notre Dame, 2325 Highland Rd., Hermitage, PA 16148, with Rev. Jeffrey Noble, pastor, as celebrant. Everyone is asked to go directly to the church.
