Norman Frank Hassel of Ormond Ave., Sharon, passed away peacefully at 5:20 a.m. Saturday, April 8, 2017, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 91.

Mr. Hassel was born March 18, 1926, in Sharon, a son of William Phillip and Opal Marie Fair Hassel.  He was a life-long area resident and attended Sharon schools.  Norm retired in 1985 from the shipping department of the former Sharon Transformer Division of the Westinghouse Electric Company, where he was employed for 38 years.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in March of 1944 and served in the European and American Theatre during WWII. Norm was honorably discharged in January of 1946 as a Gunner's Mate 3 rd Class.

His wife, the former D. Ruth Bee, whom he married June 16, 1945, passed away November 22, 1999.

Surviving are: seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, Norm was preceded in death by two sons, William Hassel and Robert D. Hassel; a daughter, Deborah Hinkle; and three children who died in infancy; a grandson, William "Billy" Hassel; and three brothers, William, John and Raymond Hassel.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Buhl Park Corporation, 715 Hazen Rd, Hermitage, PA 16148.

Calling hours will be 10 a.m. until the time of service Thursday ( 4-13-17 ) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc.; 1090 E. State St., Sharon.

Funeral service will be at noon Thursday , in the funeral home, with Rev. C. Charles Eckles, pastor of I.H.S. Gospel Ministries, Hermitage, officiating.

Military honors will be conducted following the service at America's Cemetery, Hermitage.

Interment: America's Cemetery, Hermitage.
