Obituary

Private calling hours and service will be held for Norma Jean Finzel Steklachich of Hermitage. She passed away peacefully with her family at her side at 9:55 a.m. Monday (3-23-15) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System after an extended illness. She was 86. Mrs. Steklachich was born July 24, 1928, in Sharon, one of five children born to George and Ellen Shaffer Finzel. A lifelong area resident, she attended Sharon and Hickory schools and was a graduate of Hickory High School, class of 1947. Following high school, Norma worked at the former G.C. Murphy's in downtown Sharon, and later for both Biggins Dairy and Deneen Dairy. After marriage, she worked for J.C. Penney's in its Hickory Plaza and Shenango Valley Mall locations. She was a sales associate in both the boys clothing and Boy Scout departments. She was a 50-year member of First Presbyterian Church, Sharpsville. Norma enjoyed playing cards and belonged to a 500 card club from Sharpsville with ladies who were her friends for more than 40 years. She bowled in a league at the Sharpsville Bowling Center and later with her Wednesday morning Coffee Club. She enjoyed cooking, entertaining, bingo and pulling the "one-armed bandits." She was known for her delicious apple pies. She participated with her husband in many craft shows throughout the area and also traveled as far as Erie to attend a good show. Along with her husband, she hosted family and friends picnics every weekend with 40 or more always in attendance. Her greatest joy was keeping company with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, the loves of her life. She married Edward Steklachich on Christmas Eve 1948; this past Christmas they celebrated 66 years of marriage. He survives at home. She is also survived by her children, Joan E. Goga and her husband Michael; and Linda L. Davidson and her husband Dana, all Hermitage; and James E. Steklachich and his wife Ellen, Sharpsville. She leaves her eight grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Clara F. Young, Sharpsville.
