Obituary

Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday for Nickolas Mariotti Sr., Schwartz Lane, Hermitage, who passed away at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday (10-21-10) in UPMC Horizon Hospital, Farrell, following a brief illness. He was 73.

Nick was born on December 6, 1936 in Hubbard, Ohio, the son of Albert and Mary Teutsch Mariotti. A lifelong area resident, he was a member of the Sharpsville High Schools graduating class of 1954.

Mr. Marriotti began working at an early age at the former Shenango Steel, Sharpsville, and later for its successor Masury Steel, Masury Ohio, he was a devoted employee for 40 years.

After his tenure at Masury Steel, he worked as a baker for the former Hermitage County Market, and for the last 12 years he had been a courier for First National Bank, Hermitage.

He was an active member of St. Joseph's Church, Sharon, where he enjoyed volunteering for the annual church bazaar. He was an active member of the Cursillo movement throughout the Erie Dioceses which was a movement that was near to his heart. In his earlier years, he was a member of the Kennedy Christian High School Boosters organization where he was a familiar face at most athletic events and fundraisers, especially in the kitchen helping to prepare food for the schools fund raisers, including their annual Carnazarr.

Going back further, Nick was always a devoted father and enjoyed coaching football for his sons teams through the years and would rarely miss a game.

He was an outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing, especially with his family.

His wife the former Margaret 'Marge' Eberhardt, whom he married on May 5, 1956, survives at home.

He will be sadly missed by his five children and they are, two daughters, Kathleen A. Slattery of Masury and her fiancé Christopher Bradac, Susan M. Herrick and her husband Robert, Waterford Pa. (Erie Co.), and Peggy A. Pershin and her husband James, Hopewell, Pa; two sons, Nickolas Mariotti Jr., Mercer, and Joseph Mariotti, Sharpsville, and his companion Katheryn Walker. He was a loving grandfather and great grandfather who loved his 22 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren dearly.

His parents and a brother Albert Mariotti Jr. preceded him in death.

Calling hours: 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday (10-24-10) in the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory Inc. 1090 E. State St. Sharon. The Mercer County Cursillo prayer vigil will take place at 8:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Services: Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday (10-25-10) at 10:00 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church with Rev. Glenn R. Whitman, pastor as celebrant. A brief prayer service will be held in the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. prior to leaving for the church.

Entombment: St. Rose Cemetery Mausoleum, Hermitage.
