Obituary

Nick Bonta, Jr. of Hermitage passed away peacefully Saturday, April 21, 2018, in Ridgewood at Shenango Valley Nursing Home. He was 91.

Mr. Bonta was born January 4, 1927, in Sharon, a son of the late Nick and Margaret (Salariu) Bonta, Sr.

After graduating from Sharon High School in 1945, Nick served as a private in the U.S. Army during WWII. He graduated from Youngstown State University in 1954, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration.

Nick retired in 1985 from the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp, where he worked as an electrician for 35 years.

He was the loving husband of the late Dorothy Rose "Dottie" Wilson, whom he married June 20, 1947. She passed away November 2, 2012. In their younger years, Nick and Dottie enjoyed spending Friday and Saturday nights with a close group of friends dining and dancing, often times at the Transfer VFW. This close group of friends would also take bus trips to destinations such as Nashville, TN, Atlantic City, NJ, and Niagara Falls, NY, just to name a few. In later years, Nick enjoyed shopping for various antiques at local garage sales and flea markets. He amassed a fine collection of treasures that he had found throughout the years.

Above all else, Nick loved his family and cherished the time spent with them, especially his grandchildren.

Surviving are: a daughter, Linda (John) Comninos; and a sister, Helen Tizio, all of Hermitage; eight grandchildren, John Comninos, Houston, TX; Danielle (Michael) Fahy, Monroe, NY, Jason Nicoloff and companion Heather Miles, Sharpsville, Stephen (Misha) Comninos, Hermitage, Melissa (Sam) Faylo, Winter Garden, FL, Jennifer Nicoloff, Chester, NY, Natalie Nicoloff and companion Lon Meszaros, Scottsdale, AZ, and Lisa (Tim) Conlin, Sharon; six great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves his beloved white toy poodle Maggie May.

In addition to his wife and parents, Nick was preceded in death by a daughter, Cindy (David) Nicoloff, a son-in-law, David Nicoloff, a sister, Marie (David) Dickson; two brothers-in-law, John "Jack" Wilson and Philip Tizio; and granddaughter Nicole Comninos.

The family would like to thank the staff of Ridgewood at Shenango Valley and Kindred Hospice for their exceptional care and compassion.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the ALS Association Western PA Chapter, 416 Lincoln Ave, Millvale, PA 15209.

Calling hours will be 11 a.m. until the time of service Thursday ( 4-26-18 ) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Thursday , in the funeral home, with Rev. Rick Stauffer, pastor of Covenant Presbyterian Church, officiating.

Interment: Oakwood Cemetery, Hermitage.
