Marnejon
August 16, 1935 – December 23, 2015
Nicholas "Nick Marnejon of Hermitage passed away at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday (12/23/15) in St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown, Ohio, with his family by his side. He was 80.
Mr. Marnejon was born August 16, 1935, in Sharon, a son of Thomas and Agnes Coletti Marnejon.
He was a 1953 graduate of Farrell High School where he was a standout pitcher on the baseball team and played the trumpet in the marching band. He received his bachelor's degree in education from Youngstown State University and his master's degree in Administration from Westminster College, New Wilmington.
He married his classmate, the former Lucille Agresti on September 14, 1957 in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Farrell. She survives at home.
Nick was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Fatima-St. Ann Church, Farrell, and a member of its Holy Name Society. He also was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council # 684, Sharon.
Nick was employed by the Sharon City School District for 35 years as a social studies teacher and an administrator, retiring in 1994.
A loving husband, father and grandfather, Nick was the center and strength of his family. He looked forward to family gatherings, especially at the holidays – none more than Christmas. He was blessed with five grandchildren who were his pride and joy. Nick was their biggest fan whether it was on the sidelines watching their many athletic events, at all of their school programs, as they entered and graduated college, and as they started married life and families of their own. His grandchildren particularly looked forward to special summer occasions when he made them a family favorite, steaks on the grill.
Nick had a long career in athletic involvement. Following high school, he played baseball with the Farrell Pirates and Farrell Merchants in the Mercer County Independent League as a pitcher. In independent softball, he played with Sawhill Tubular Products in the Shenango Valley Industrial League. As a teacher and administrator at Sharon High School, he held several coaching roles. He coached junior high basketball, served as a varsity assistant football coach and was the junior high football coach where his team was undefeated in 1961. Nick was the athletic director at Sharon High School for seven years. During that time the Sharon program grew from four sports to eleven. He was a charter member of the Pennsylvania Athletic Directors Association. He also served as commissioner of the former Keystone Football League and was a instrumental in establishing a playoff game with the Northwest Football Conference, which continued until the state playoffs were established. Nick was inducted into the Mercer County Hall of Fame in 2006 where he served more than 30 years on its board as vice-president, secretary and treasurer and as a member of many committees. He was chairman of the Hall's Tom Burns Academic All-Star Awards. Nick was also inducted into the Farrell Alumni Hall of Fame in 2012.
He will be sadly missed by his family and many friends.
In addition to his wife, survivors include: two children, Dr. Thomas P. Marnejon and his wife Dr. Janet G. Marnejon, Columbiana, Ohio; and Paula L. Dalessandro and her husband Louis M., Hermitage; five grandchildren, Nicholas and wife Taylor Marnejon; Tom and his wife Hilary Marnejon; twins Anthony and Alexis Marnejon, and Angela Dallessandro; and a brother-in-law, William L. Caputo, Hermitage.
