Funeral will be Monday for Nicholas V. Libeg of Masury, who passed away peacefully at 2:18 p.m. Thursday (1-28-16) of natural causes at his residence. He was 100.
Nicholas was born in Sharon on Dec. 20, 1915, one of seven children of Daniel and Lucretia Catherine Suteu Libeg.
He graduated from Brookfield High School in 1933. Following high school he worked at both Inland Steel of East Chicago, and National Castings division of Midland Ross in Sharon.
He left the steel industry in 1938 to manage his mother's tavern in Masury, "Libby's Tavern".
A decorated veteran of WWII, he served with the Army Air Corps from 1940 until 1945. He served as a bombardier on a B-24 in the European Theater of operations and was honorably discharged with several medals including the Flying Cross and Distinguished Flying Cross Service Medals. Having flown more than 30 missions, he was a participant in Operation Carpetbaggers which was a low-altitude spy deploying mission that also dropped supplies to the allied forces in German-occupied Europe.
A real estate broker and appraiser, he owned and operated Nicholas V. Libeg Real Estate Agency and served both eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania. He was the developer of Masury's Woodland Acres, one of his greatest achievements and where he would live until his passing.
He was a member and past president of the Shenango Valley Board of Realtors and belonged to several community organizations including the Brookfield Optimist Club, the Lions and Wolves Clubs, American Legion, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8860, Masury.
Nick and his wife always loved to dance. He was a master of his homestead, and always enjoyed a good game of poker. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
His wife, the former Anna Madeline Cain, whom he married Oct. 15, 1943, passed away April 12, 1989.
He is survived by: his children, Jack and Valery Klaric, Henderson, Nev., John and Linda Libeg, Darnestown, Md., Tom and Shirley Libeg, Hermitage, and Denny and Mary Kay Eli, Masury; his grandchildren, Cory and Shannon Schupp, Knoxville, Tenn., Matthew and Sarah Libeg, Herndon, Va., Meredith Libeg, Olney, Md., Tom and Christine Libeg, Avon, Ohio, Nick and Ashley Libeg, Hubbard, Kevin Libeg, Scottsdale, Ariz., Amanda Eli, Brooklyn, Jenelle Eli, Arlington, Va., Kristen Eli, Scottsdale, Ariz.; and seven great-grandchildren,
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by: his daughter, Anna Madeline Schupp; his sisters, Katherine Ross, Olympia "Libby" Mihalcin and Victoria Ryhal; and his brothers, Raymond, Victor, and Daniel Libeg.

Services: Military honors will be rendered by the Honor Guard of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6233, West Middlesex and American Legion Post 432, Wheatland on Monday (2-1-16) at 6 p.m. in the funeral home chapel followed by a funeral service with Rev. Michael Swierz, pastor of St. Patrick Church, Hubbard, officiating.
