Obituary

Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday (12-15-11) for Nicholas A. Dunch, John XXIII Home for Senior Citizens, Hermitage, formerly of Sharon who passed away peacefully at 2:20 p.m. on Monday (12-12-11) in the home. He was 93.

Mr. Dunch was born on April 7, 1918 in Sharon the son of Nicholas and Rose Gruber Dunch.

A lifelong area resident, he attended Sharon Schools. He retired in 1980 from the former Sharon Transformer division of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation where he worked as a fitter with 43 years of service. While working at Westinghouse he was a member of the International Union of Electrical Workers and after his retirement he joined the Westinghouse Retirees Association.

In his younger years he served with the Pennsylvania Civilian Conservation Corps.

Mr. Dunch was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Sharon where he had served as an usher for 25 years. He was also a member of the Sharon Knights of Columbus Council #684.

He loved to dance and he simply enjoyed spending time with his family whom he cherished.

His wife the former Helen Rose Ruffo whom he met at the Italian Home in Farrell and whom he married on October 5, 1940, passed away on July 8, 2000.

He leaves his two daughters, Mary Ann Bialko and her husband Vern, Masury, Oh; Rose M. Rowe and her husband Terry L., Hermitage; a son Nicholas E. Dunch and his wife Joan, Muncie, Indiana; a daughter in law Cynthia Dunch, Hubbard; two sisters, and Kay Shuttleworth, Sharon, and Agnes Gilliand, Masury; two brothers, Louis Dunch and his wife Mary Ann, Sharon; and S. Frank Dunch and his wife Irene, Hermitage; 8 grandchildren, Nick E. Dunch, Natalie M.(Shannon) Lawrence, Neil J. (Alison) Dunch, Nicole M.(William) Mayle, Ian S. Bialko, Chad W. (Emily) Rowe, Tara (BJ) Rudge, Garett W. Rowe and his fiance Molly Taylor, fourteen grandchildren, Mackenzie, Wyatt, Marie, and Emma Lawrence, Kayla, Anna, and Nicholas Dunch, Veronica and Sydney Sims, Moriah, Anneka, Lucas, and Hannah Rudge, and Brianna Rowe.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son William J. Dunch, a granddaughter, Christa Dunch Sims, two brothers, John and Benjamin Dunch, and a sister Rose Gerdy.

Services: Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 12: 00 noon on Thursday (12-15-11) in Sacred Heart Church, Sharon with Rev. Henry C. Andrae, pastor as the celebrant. A brief prayer service will take place at 11:30 Thursday morning in the funeral home prior to leaving for the church.

Interment: Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Cemetery, Hermitage.
