Nellie M. Vasconi of Sharon passed away at 12:02 p.m. Saturday, May 5, 2018, in Sharon Regional Medical Center. She was 98.

Mrs. Vasconi was born December 25, 1919, in Sharpsville, a daughter of Ardwino and Maria Rossi. She attended Sharpsville High School and from the age of 14, Nellie worked cleaning homes. In 1942 she began working at the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp., until becoming a homemaker in 1956. Nellie returned to work in 1963 as a custodian for Sharon School District. She assisted in unionizing the non-professional work force at the school district through AFSCME (American Federal State, County and Municipal Employees) Local 2625, serving as its vice president for many years.

Nellie was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Sharon. She loved the spring season and flowers. During retirement, Nellie and her husband traveled widely throughout the United States and would go dancing every weekend for many years and we're part of 'the crowd' at Kuzman's Lounge in Niles, OH.

Nellie was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Family always came first and she was well known for being an accomplished baker and cook.

She is survived by her husband of over 61 years, Louis Vasconi, age 99, whom she married on November 24, 1956.

Also surviving are: a son, Mark Vasconi and his wife Sonia, Olympia, WA; two granddaughters, Sofia Natalia Vasconi, Olympia, WA; and Julia Elena Vasconi, Oakland, CA; one brother, Samuel N. Ross, State College, PA; and many nieces and nephews who live throughout the United States.

Nellie was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Lena Barca, Angelina Benneto and Frances Alter; and four brothers, Sandy, Tony, Peter and Joseph Rossi.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to St. Joseph's Church, 79 Case Ave., Sharon, PA 16146.

Calling hours will be 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday (05/10/2018) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 East State St., Sharon.

Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Friday (05/11/2018) in St. Joseph's Church, with Rev. Thomas Whitman, pastor, as celebrant.

Entombment: St. Rose Cemetery Mausoleum, Hermitage.
