Nathan Simon, Hermitage, passed away peacefully at 9:30 pm, November 7th at home surrounded by his family following an extended illness. He was 94 years old. Mr. Simon was born April 8, 1921 in Buhl Hospital, Sharon to Rae and Hyman Simon. He was a lifelong area resident and graduated from Farrell High School, class of 1939. He was owner and operator of Crown Metal & Salvage Company, Brookfield, Ohio, and former co-owner of Simon Brothers, Sharon. Mr. Simon was a member of the former Temple Beth Israel, Sharon, and a current member of Congregation Rodef Sholom, Youngstown. Nate was active in B'nai B'rith becoming an advisor for BBYO youth organization. He was also past president of B'nai B'rith, Sharon and B'nai B'rith Council of Western Pa. Nate was a tremendous booster of Farrell High School basketball, and a familiar face at all their games. He also was a longtime member of the Farrell Lions Club. Mr. Simon was a proud veteran, who was an officer in the Army in World War II. Nate was a kind and gentle man, and a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He loved his family and friends, hosting many gatherings at his home, including block parties, class reunions and family get-togethers. He loved to dance and lit up the room with his wonderful spirit, always bringing smiles to people's faces. After retirement, he and his wife Carol traveled extensively and enjoyed visiting cities across the globe. He was loved greatly and will be sadly missed by his family. Surviving is his wife, the former Carol Trapp, whom he married in l981, a son, Dr. Terry Simon and wife, Sharon, Massillon, Ohio, a daughter Linda Michelle Scott, Pittsburgh, PA and children from his second marriage, Joseph Trapp and wife Suesie, Tampa, Florida, Karen Trapp Lewis, Transfer, Kathleen Paknis and husband Judson, Sharon, and Kevin Trapp and wife Rachel, Transfer. Fourteen grandchildren, Alycia Scott Zollinger and husband Reese, Seattle, WA, Jason Simon and wife Kamila, Charlotte, NC, Nicole and Joey Trapp, Jordan and Luke Lewis, Ella, Bodhi, Keon, and Haiden Paknis, and Kalen and Kas Trapp, Dr. Matthew Higgins and wife Lisa, Duluth, GA, Nichole Manello and husband Tom, Massillon, Ohio. Three great grandchildren, Ari Zollinger, and Chloe and Mazio Manello. Three nephews, Arnold Zam, Neal Zam, and Sidney Zam. He was preceded in death by his brother George Simon, two sisters, including his twin Pearl Zam and Helen Simon, and former wife Rose Pollack, who he married on December 31, 1943; also grandson, Michael Higgins and great granddaughter, Ainsley Page Higgins. Services: A funeral service will begin at 8:30 p.m. in the funeral home Tuesday (11-10-15) Interment: A grave side committal service will take place at Temple Beth Israel Cemetery, Hermitage at 10:30. a.m. A procession will leave the funeral home at 10:00.a.m. for the cemetery.
