Nancy Ann Flaugher, 432 Wengler Ave., Sharon, passed away at 6:15 a.m. Sunday (5-3-09) in her home from a rare cancer, cholangiocarsinoma, following an extended illness. She was 65.
Mrs. Flaugher was born January 1, 1944 in Youngstown, Ohio a daughter of the late Jess S. and Rose M. Raupach Strawderman.
She attended South High School in Youngstown and moved to the area in 1963.
Mrs. Flaugher retired in August of 2002 from Sharon Regional Health System where she was employed in the housekeeping department for ten years. She previously worked in the cafeteria for the Sharon City School District and the Dairy Queen in S. Pymatuning Township where she was a cake decorator.
Mrs. Flaugher was an active member of the West Middlesex United Methodist Church. She was also a member of a Tuesday evening Woman's card club, TOPS and a former member of the Western Reserve trap shooting team. She enjoyed boating, crocheting and cross stitching and made many beautiful blankets for her family. Her greatest love and most important endeavor was spending time with her family. She loved to attend her children's and grandchildren's athletic, band and scholastic events. Nancy was a very devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend and will be greatly missed by all who knew her, including her dog Nikki.
Surviving are: her husband at home, Terrence 'Terry' Flaugher, whom she married August 31, 1962; two daughters, Tracy Elsey and her husband Randy, Hermitage; and Sharon Wallace and her husband Steven, Sharon; a son, Randy Flaugher, Boardman, Ohio; nine grandchildren who lovingly referred to her as Na Na, Terry, Chris, Bevin and Erin Flaugher; Patrick, Ryan and Gwendolyn Elsey; and Allycia and Donovan Wallace; two sisters, Jessie Tarary, Hermitage; and Betty Thompson and her husband Richard, Poland, Ohio; a brother, John 'Jack' Strawderman and his wife Judy, Sarasota, Florida; brother and sister-in-laws, Dave Burrows, Boardman, Ohio; Harold and Peg Tonks, West Middlesex; and Richard and Norma Tonks, Sharpsville; her Godchildren, Rusty Thompson, Poland, Ohio; and Katie McFarland, New Castle, PA; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by two sisters, Rose M. Burrows and Kathryn Strawderman; a brother, Billy Strawderman; and a sister-in-law, Lois Tonks Frantz.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the West Middlesex United Methodist Church, 3123 Main St., West Middlesex, PA 16159; or to Sharon Regional Health System's Hospice Home Care, 740 E. State St., Sharon, PA 16146.
Calling hours will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday (5-5-09) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday (5-6-09) in the funeral home with the Rev. Sung S. Chung, pastor of West Middlesex United Methodist Church, officiating.
Interment: Oakwood Cemetery, Hermitage.
