Myrtle
Giroski
February 25, 1924 – January 16, 2025
Myrtle Giroski, a lifelong resident of South Neshannock Rd., Hermitage, passed away Thursday evening, January 16, 2025, in Ridgewood at Shenango Valley. She was 100.
Mrs. Giroski was born on February 25, 1924, in West Middlesex, PA, a daughter of the late Wayne and Sylvia (Smith) Jarrett. She was a 1942 graduate of Hickory High School.
Her husband, Michael Giroski, whom she married on June 5, 1943, while he was stationed in Galesburg, ILL. They met in her junior year of high school at the former Shady Grove Roller Skating Rink. He passed away on September 23, 2013.
When he returned from war, she and Michael built their home on Neshannock Road. They shared many memories, enjoying a favorite pastime, fishing.
A homemaker, prior to marriage and during WWII, she worked in the payroll department of the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp.
Myrtle was a member of Neshannock Alliance Church, West Middlesex.
Myrtle served her community by volunteering as an assistant Girl Scout leader, and at the coffee shop in the Farrell Hospital.
She was a charter member of the Hickory Twp. VFW, and belonged to several bowling leagues at Hickory Bowl, and a Euchre Club.
Myrtle loved cooking and baking, and was a member of the "Growing Wiser Homemakers Group."
Above all, she loved spending time with her family.
She is survived by three daughters, Margie (Tom) Toth, Marilyn (John) Lechner, all of Hermitage, and Melanie (Robert) Calero, Hubbard, OH; three grandchildren, Tom (Gina) Toth, Julie (Brian) Thompson, and Michael (Michelle) Lechner; a step-grandson, Christopher Calero; six great-grandchildren, Paige, Clayton, and Wyatt Thompson; Michael and Jacob Lechner, and Jasmine Calero. Also surviving is a sister, Marge Crompton, Greenville.
In addition to her parents and husband, Myrtle was preceded in death by three brothers, Wayne, Walter and Albert Jarrett.
Calling hours will be 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday (01/21/2025) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 East State St., Sharon.
Funeral service will immediately follow at 3 p.m., Tuesday, in the funeral home, with Rev. Nathan Seckinger, officiating.
Interment: Morefield Cemetery, Hermitage.
