Obituary

Miriam L. "Ming" Dougherty, 96, of Hermitage passed away peacefully at 1: 07 a.m. Friday, January 25, 2019, in St. John XXIII Home, Hermitage.

Mrs. Dougherty was born January 15, 1923, in Clarington, Pa., a daughter of the late Charles Richard and Bertha Melinda (Groce) Coon.  She was a graduate of Sigel (PA) High School and received her bachelor's degree in Art Education from Indiana (PA) State Teachers College.

Ming, as she was known by many, taught art in the Clarion-Limestone Area School District and Reynoldsville High School before moving to Hermitage in 1967.  A homemaker, she was an active member of the Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage.  Ming loved playing cards and belonged to many card and bridge clubs.  She was also an avid reader and enjoyed making crafts.  She was a member of the Hermitage Women's Club.

Her husband, Retired U.S. Army Colonel Edward S. Dougherty, whom she married June 7, 1951, passed away October 30, 1987.

Surviving are: three children, Philip C. Dougherty and his wife Annette, of Hermitage; Jane M. Simelis and her husband James C., of the Robinson Twp. section of Pittsburgh; and Andrea M. Molchan and her husband George, of Canton, MI; nine grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and a brother, Charles Wayne Coon, of Lancaster, PA.

Besides her parents and husband, Mrs. Dougherty was preceded in death by a son, Daniel Edward Dougherty.

The family suggests memorial contributions be directed to Hope Center for Arts and Technology, Inc., P. O. Box 597, Sharon, PA 16146.

There are no calling hours.

A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held in the Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage, with Very Rev. Richard J. Allen, E.V., as celebrant.

Interment: St. Dominic cemetery, Sigel, PA.
