Milena Mesin, formerly of Farrell, PA passed away peacefully at 3:11 a.m. on Friday, June 22, 2018 in Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Chicago, IL, with her family and friends at her side after a 14 month courageous battle with cancer. She was 50.
Milena was born February 8, 1968, in Drnis, Croatia, a daughter of Ivan and Ana Lela Mesin.
At the age of 5 in 1973, Milena's uncle and aunt, Marko & Ann Mesin of Farrell PA brought her to the United States for a better education and opportunities in life.
Milena graduated from Kennedy Catholic High School in 1986 with high honors. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from Youngstown State University in 1990 and moved to Chicago where she worked for Student Union Collegiate Apparel as the Great Lakes Regional Sales Manager. Throughout her 28 years of living in Chicago, she worked for various law firms as a real estate tax paralegal and property tax administrator.
Surviving is her mom, Ana; 2 brothers, Marko (Nada) Mesin and Joso (Tina) Mesin; and a sister, Neda (Marko) Vukusic all of Croatia; a sister, Bobbi (Ivan) Gataric of San Diego, CA; her aunt who raised her, Ann Mesin, Hermitage; an uncle Anthony (Marija) Mesin, Hermitage; nephews, Joshua and Noah Gataric; and a niece Ella Gataric, all of San Diego, CA; and cousins, Anita Mesin (FL) and Ante Mesin (VA). She also leaves many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins in Croatia and Toronto, Canada as well as many dear friends in Chicago.
She was preceded in death by her father, Ivan; her grandparents; and an uncle, Marko.
Milena had a kind, giving spirit and was a kidney donor to a friend in Chicago. She loved watching sports and was passionate about the Patriots and Chicago Cubs. She loved to travel, try new cuisine with friends; loved all things Croatian and was part of the Croatian Community in Chicago. Milena was a longtime member of St. Anthony's Church, Sharon, as well as Holy Name Cathedral in Chicago.
Special thank you to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Chicago for the truly exceptional care she received during her battle with cancer. Thank you to family and friends who have shown their love and support during Milena's illness.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Kennedy Catholic High School, Hermitage or St. Anthony's Church, Sharon.
A Memorial Mass will be 11am, Saturday, July 14th, 2018 in St. Anthony's Church, Sharon at 11am with Rev. Matthew J. Ruyechan, pastor, as celebrant.
Family will receive friends immediately following the Mass.
