Mildred “Millie” Zachar, 97, of Niles, OH, went to be with the Lord in her Heavenly home on Saturday, December 13, 2025.

Mrs. Zachar was born on October 7, 1928, in Sharon, a daughter of the late John and Mary (Mihalko) Kapusta. She was a 1946 graduate of Sharon High School. After graduation, she worked at Westinghouse Electric Corp. for nearly 8 years. She then worked for Sears Department Store for over 30 years as a customer service representative and then later in their office on payroll.

Millie was a faithful member of Sts. Peter and Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sharon, and served in their choir. She loved her Lord dearly. She prayed fervently, daily, for all her family, and encouraged them also to pray, and trust in the Lord in all things, always.

She was a wonderful model of great faith, love, and kindness, one her children aspired to become. Her influence on her children has left a legacy that has and will continue for generations to come.

Millie was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt. She loved the gathering of all her family, and looked forward to attending her grandchildren’s events and activities. These times with her family were precious to her, ones she captured with many many pictures. For the daily moments which she also treasured, she recorded them daily in her diary (of which there are now volumes).

Millie married her loving husband Edward on June 12, 1954. Together, they enjoyed traveling, especially on bus trips with friends. Together with her family, they enjoyed their annual vacations in Canada.

If you were to visit Millie at her home, you would be met by her warm smile, her deep loving gaze, and perhaps by her quick wit or her wonderful sense of humor. If you came in the morning, you would find her reading her Bible and devotions. During the day, she would likely be reading one of her many books. She would end every day with a kiss for her dearly loved husband.

She was able to live at home alongside her loving husband of 71 years until the day she was called to glory. This would not have been possible except for the steadfast sacrifice and commitment of her loving son Tom, who cared for them both. The family wishes to extend to Tom their deepest appreciation.

We the family are grateful to God for the 97 years of wonderful blessings God has given us all through her, and look forward to a joyful reunion with her in Heaven.

She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Kathy McGowan (James), of Hubbard, OH; four sons, David Zachar (Kathryn), of Masury, OH, Tom Zachar, of Niles, Steven Zachar (Judith), of Oxford, MI, and Bill Zachar (Shirley), of Murrysville, PA; ten grandchildren, Carrie, Julie, Bonnie, Kristie, Rachel, Nathan, Cindy, Jill, Morgan and Madison; and three great-grandchildren, Connor, Colton and Charlotte. In addition to her parents, Mildred was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Ann Krajci.

The family suggests memorial contributions be directed to Sts. Peter and Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 699 Stambaugh Ave., Sharon, PA 16146.
