Obituary

Michael E. Weller Jr. of Carrier Road, Transfer, passed away at 11:49 a.m. Wednesday (3-18-15) in his home unexpectedly due to complications from COPD. He was 86. Mr. Weller was born Dec. 23, 1928, in Patton, Pa., to Michael E. Weller Sr. and Julia Duffy Weller. A lifelong area resident, he was raised in Sharon and attended Sharon schools. As a decorated veteran of the Army, he reached the rank of corporal, served during the Korean conflict, and was honorably discharged on Jan. 28, 1953. He married the former Sara Malia on June 12, 1951, in St. Bartholomew's Church in Sharpsville. They resided in Sharpsville for many years until his retirement, when they moved into the country. He enjoyed his retirement years working in his huge garden and yard. He worked as a welder at the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. for 28 years. He later worked for Liberty Steel Products, Hubbard, for 25 years as the traffic manager and retired in December 1993. Mike enjoyed many years coaching both his sons in Little League and then senior division in Sharpsville. (Weller pitching, Weller catching and Weller coaching!!) He also enjoyed the outdoors and hunting and fishing with his family. While working at Liberty Steel, he enjoyed several racing seasons with all the Wellers of Weller Racing at Sharon Speedway and Lernerville Speedway. He is survived by his four children, Sally and her husband David Gervais, Sharon; Mick and his wife Karen, Transfer; Paul and his wife Diane, Transfer; and Peggy Noble, Greenville. He also leaves six grandchildren, Maggie and her husband Adam Nichols, Sharon; Justin and his wife Ami Gervais, Sharon; Michelle Weller, Transfer; Matt and his wife Laurie Weller, Fairview, Erie County; Chris Weller, Transfer; and Becky Noble, Greenville; and seven great-grandchildren, Sarah Nichols, Sharon; Aiden and Leah Gervais, both Sharon; and Thornton, Luella, Elliona and Spencer Michael, all Greenville. In addition to his beloved wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Betty Keister, Anna Caldwell and an infant, Julia Weller; and four brothers, Frederick J. Weller Sr., who passed away in February of this year; Harold "Herk" Weller, Robert Weller and an infant, Paul Weller. His family suggests that anyone wishing to make a memorial contribution in his memory to please choose a charity of their choice. Calling hours: 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday (3-22-15) in J. BRADLEY McGONIGLE FUNERAL HOME Inc., 1090 E. State St. Sharon. Services: Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. Monday (3-23- 15) in St. Bartholomew's Church, 311 W. Ridge Ave., Sharpsville, with the Rev. Matthew J. Strickenberger, pastor, as celebrant. A procession will leave for the church at 10:30 a.m. Interment: St. Mary's Cemetery, Hermitage. Full military honors will be rendered at the cemetery by the Honor Guard from VFW Hickory Post 6166, Hermitage.
