Michael J. Sabo Clubhouse Circle, West Middlesex, Pa., and Naples Florida, passed away peacefully at 12:17 a.m. Friday (6-24-11) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 80.
He was born in Farrell, Pennsylvania April 16, 1931 the son of Michael and Sophia Stefanick Sabo.
A lifelong area resident, Mr. Sabo was a member of Farrell High Schools graduating class of 1949. He matriculated to the Pennsylvania State University State College, Pa., where he earned his Bachelor's degree in Architectural Engineering in 1954. Following graduation, he entered the United States Air Force as a Second Lieutenant and was assigned to the single engine jet training program. He received his wings and promotion to First Lieutenant and was honorably discharged in 1958.
After successfully completing his Structural Engineering Boards in 1961, he received his Professional Engineering License to practice as an architectural engineer in the commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He was elected to the American Institute of Architects in 1963 and joined the ranks of the Pennsylvania Society of Architects that same year. Mr. Sabo began his career with the Architectural Engineering firm of Hunter, Heiges, and Gross as a structural designer. Later, he became a partner with HHSDR (Hunter, Heiges, Sabo, Douglass & Rogers). During his career he supervised the structural and site planning of many projects in Western Pennsylvania including the Reynolds, Sharon, Hermitage, Sharpsville, Greenville, and Grove City High Schools. Many of his firm's projects received accolades in achievement including the John Hetra Elementary School, Farrell, the Hermitage Municipal Building, the First Federal Savings and Loan's Main office in downtown Sharon, and their Branch Office !
in the Hermitage Square Plaza.
Mike was a member and past president of the Pennsylvania Society of Architects. He also served on the United Way board of directors and was a member and past president of the Shenango Valley Chamber of Commerce. He was on the French Creek Council, BSA Board of Directors and received the Silver Beaver Award from the Custaloga District, BSA. He served on the Board of Directors at Kennedy Catholic High School, and John XXIII Home, both Hermitage. In October of 2010 Mr. Sabo was inducted into the Farrell High School Alumni Hall of Fame. A long time active member and Eucharistic Minister of Church of the Good Shepherd, West Middlesex, he was privileged to have designed his church, and remodel it's addition some 25 years later. He was also a member of the Serra Club, an organization that encourages religious vocations. He was a forty plus year member and past president of the West Middlesex Kiwanis Club.
His wife the former Margaret J. Trolier whom he married on October 9th, 1954, survives at home.
He also leaves his two daughters, Melanie Sabo, Washington DC, and Marcia Frye and her husband Gary, Aiken, South Carolina, two sons, Michael J. Sabo and his wife Sabrina, Tampa, Fl., and Matthew Sabo and his wife Laura, Kennett Square, Pa., a sister Cynthia Orben and her husband Fritz, Hermitage, five grandchildren, Tiffany Potter, Maxwell Sabo, Rhyan Blews, and Sara and June Sabo.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Frances Kudray, and his brother, Robert Sabo.

Services: Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday (6-28-11) at 10:00 a.m. in Church of the Good Shepherd, West Middlesex, with Rev. Robert M. Malene, pastor as celebrant. Everyone is asked to go directly to the church to celebrate his Mass as there will be no procession to the church the morning of the funeral. Full military honors will be rendered at the church immediately following the Mass by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6233, West Middlesex, and American Legion Post 432, Wheatland
