Obituary

Michael Petro of Youngstown, formerly of Sharon, passed away Wednesday, January 3, 2018, at his residence. He was 94

Mr. Petro was born August 24, 1923, in Sharon, a son of John and Mary (Bacik) Petro. He was a 1941 graduate of Sharon High School, and also attended a technical school in Chicago, Illinois, where he was trained to repair televisions, radios and small appliances.

Michael was a proud WWII veteran and served in the U.S. Army as a communications specialist in the European Theatre of Operation.

He retired from Commercial Intertech, Youngstown, where he worked as a store room and inventory clerk for many years.

Michael was a lifelong member of Saints Peter and Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sharon. His parents were founders of the church which had just celebrated its 100th anniversary in June of 2017. Michael held the distinction as the church's oldest living member prior to his passing.

In his active years, he enjoyed golfing and had made a hole-in-one at Tam O'Shanter Golf Course, Hermitage. He also enjoyed working on and repairing televisions and electronics.

His wife, the former Ann Ruscak, whom he married Aug. 26, 1962, passed away June 26, 2002.

Surviving are: a sister, Mildred Balash, Ocala, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Helen Ruscak, Youngstown; and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, Michael was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Suzanne Boor and Marie Arthur; and three brothers, John, Andrew, and Paul Petro.

The family would like to thank, Dave Kirtos, for the exceptional care and compassion he had provided to Michael.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Sts. Peter and Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 699 Stambaugh Ave., Sharon, Pa. 16146.

Calling hours will be 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Wednesday (1-10-17) in Sts. Peter and Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Funeral service will be noon Wednesday , in the church, with Rev. Jacob Deal, pastor, as celebrant.

Military honors will be rendered immediately following.

Interment: America's Cemetery, Hermitage.
