Obituary

Michael Yassem Jr. of 65 S. Irvine Ave. Sharon, PA. passed away at 10:05 p.m. Sunday, June 27, 2010 in UPMC Horizon, Farrell. He was 89.

Mr. Yassem was born in Sharon, PA on December 15, 1920, a son of Michael and Anna Platco Yassem Sr.

He was a 1938 graduate of Sharon High School. Michael went on to graduate in 1950 from the Bricklayer's Association in New Castle, PA.

Michael served in the United States Marine Corp. during World War II. He served two tours spanning 10 years. Michael served in many areas of the Marine Corp. including Naval Intelligence. He received a Pacific Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Service Theater Medal, a Purple Heart in the battle of Iwo Jima, and his battalion received a presidential citation.

Mr. Yassem retired after over 20 years as a layout operator for The Sharon Transformer Division of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation.

Michael was highly involved in the Mercer County Humane Society. He enjoyed the companionship of his dogs. Previously he was involved as a school crossing guard in Sharon. Michael was a wonderful and loving father, and adored spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

His wife, Donna Regal, whom he married in 1949, passed away on February 21, 1980.

Survivors include: a son, Mark and his wife Tracey Yassem of Mercer, PA; 2 daughters, Michelle A. Henning of Hermitage, PA, and Deborah A. and her husband Raymond Wilson of Eugene, OR; 7 grandchildren, Joseph Shebek Jr., Nicholas J. Huffman, Matthew D. Henning, Tiffany M. Root, Eric R. Huffman, Amanda M. Henning, and Sabrina D. Yassem; 2 great grandchildren, Aiden and Brennan Huffman.

Along with his parents and wife, Michael was preceded in death by a daughter, Marietta J. Robinson; a brother, John Yassem; 2 sisters, Anna Yassem and Margaret Buynyak.

Calling hours will be from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, July 2, 2010 at the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 1090 E. State St. Sharon, PA 16146

A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 2, 2010 at 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Joseph Marzano pastor of Grace in the Wilderness Fellowship Church.

Inurnment will be in Graceland Cemetery.
