Obituary
Michael Howard of Sharpsville passed away unexpectedly of natural causes Thursday evening, December 22, 2016, in his home. He was 79.
Mr. Howard was born September 8, 1937, in Cornamena, County Galway, Ireland, a son of Michael and Mary Coyne Howard.
He was raised and educated in Ireland and moved to the United States in 1955, settling in Sharpsville.
Mike served in the U.S. Army in Korea during the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion, Post 299, Sharon.
He was employed by the former Shenango, Inc., Sharpsville, for 36 years and retired as a foreman in 1991.
Mike was a former member of St. Bartholomew Church, Sharpsville.
An outdoorsman, he was an avid fisherman and hunter and enjoyed teaching others his skills. He was very creative and crafted his own fishing nets and made and sharpened his knives.
Mike was very proud of his Irish heritage and enjoyed a good conversation. He loved his family dearly and cherished the time he had with his grandchildren.
Surviving is his loving wife, the former Nora J. Collins, whom he married May 19, 1962; a daughter, Mary Kathleen Sabulsky and her husband David, Hermitage; two sons, Michael W. Howard and his wife Jean, Sharon; and Patrick R. Howard, Sharpsville; and seven grandchildren, Mary Alison Joseph and her husband Christopher Joseph, DO; Caitlin Eileen Sabulsky, Darby Grace Howard, Nora Bree Howard, Catherine Mariah Howard, Caroline Elizabeth Howard and Claire Misha Howard. He also leaves a sister, Mary Shelton and her husband Waldo, Pittsburgh; two brothers, Martin Howard and his wife Julia, San Francisco, CA; and John Howard and his wife Linda, Hermitage; sisters- and brothers-in-law, Karen and Daniel "Cheech" Suso, Sharon; and Dick and Rita Collins, Columbus, OH; and several nieces and nephews.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents; a son Sean Anthony Howard; and a sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Zurawsky.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, December 26, 2016, in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.
Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 27, 2016, in St. Bartholomew Church, Sharpsville, with Rev. Matthew Strickenberger, pastor, as celebrant.
Everyone is asked to go directly to the church. Interment: St. Rose Cemetery, Hermitage.
