Michael Harris Beckman of Sharon passed away unexpectedly of natural causes Tuesday, April 5, 2016, in his residence.
He was 58.
Mr. Beckman was born September 27, 1957, in Cumberland, MD, a son of Michael A. and Alma Jean Harris Beckman.
He moved to the area as a child and was a 1975 graduate of Brookfield High School.
Enlisting with the Air Force in 1976 and honorably discharged in 1981, he was stationed at the Shaw Air Force Base in Sumter, SC.
Mike retired in 2012 as a tow motor operator from the former Sawhill Tubular Products-Division of Cyclops, Sharon, where he was employed for 34 years.
He was a member of the Buhl Community Recreation Center, Sharon, where he played volleyball, racquetball and handball and enjoyed hiking, bicycling and bowling.
During his youth, he was a Boy Scout and appeared on the Barney Bean show which gave him one of his first inspirations to draw.
An accomplished cartoonist, he found much joy in drawing political caricatures.
He did the artwork for the "Black and White," a newsletter published by USW, Local 1016, and his cartoons usually related to a current topic being discussed by the union and management.
Mike also had some of his artwork published in The Herald.
Surviving are: his wife, the former Kathy Ann Henderson, whom he married April 15, 1988; two daughters, Kelly Beckman-Crabtree and her husband Aaron J. Crabtree, Dayton, Ohio; and Brandy Beckman-Wilcox and her husband Todd Wilcox, Phoenix, AZ; two sons, Michael Henderson Beckman and his fiancé Kimberly M. Danos, Hermitage; and Kyle C. Beckman and his fiancé Ashley Renee Coxson, Sharon; five grandchildren, Breanna M. Wilcox, Spencer R. Wilcox, Owen Lutz, Violet P. Crabtree and Hunter J. Beckman; his parents, Mike and Jean Beckman, Brookfield; a sister, Terrie L. Beckman, Dayton, Ohio; a brother, Steven D. Beckman and his companion Jolene L. Booher, Howland, Ohio; three nephews, Lukas S. Beckman, Jacob A. Beckman and William Tatum; and two brothers-in-law, Donald C. Henderson and his wife Beverly, Greenville; and David M. Henderson and his wife Melissa, Fairmount, Georgia.
Mike was preceded in death by his grandparents, Joseph Wilfred and Ada Lee (Miller) Harris and John McFadden and Esther J. (Heller) Beckman; and his mother- and father-in-law, Jean and Charles Henderson.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association; or the Buhl Community Recreation Center, 28 Pine St., Sharon, PA 16146.
