Melvin C. Lutton of Whispering Oaks, Hermitage, passed away after a short illness at 4: 15 a.m. Saturday, November 26, 2016, in Louisville, Ohio. He was 94.
Mr. Lutton was born February 24, 1922, in Youngstown, Ohio, a son of Joseph and Grace Kasbohn Lutton.
He was raised and educated in Sharpsville and served in Africa from 1942 to 1945 with the U.S. Army Air Force/Corps as a communications expert during WWII.
Melvin was a 25 year employee of IBM where he worked with the U.S. Navy on underwater sound and developed telemetry equipment for the Gemini Space Project and the FAA Air Traffic Control.
His wife of 73 years, the former Betty J. Jones, whom he married August 3, 1942, passed away June 2nd of this year.
Surviving are: two daughters, Melva Jane Lutton, Columbus, Ohio; and Jean Harris and her husband Jack, Canton, Ohio; four grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Buhl Farm Park, 715 Hazen Rd., Hermitage, PA 16148.
Calling hour will be from 1 p.m. until the time of service today, November 29, 2016, in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. today in the funeral home. Interment: Brookfield Twp. Cemetery.
