Melville Johnston of Masury passed away at 5:35 p.m. Thursday, July 2, 2015, in his daughter Cynthia's home where he resided since December of 2014. He was 91. Mr. Johnston was born January 28, 1924, in Sharon, the only child of Melville and Margaret Antol Johnston. He was a lifelong area resident and a 1943 graduate of Sharon High School. Melville served with the United States Marine Corp. as a Tech Sergeant during WW II and the Korean War and was a lifetime member of the VFW, Masury. He was employed as a machinist for Jennings Manufacturing in Masury for 23 years and then worked as a painter and relief person for 18 years at GM Lordstown before retiring in 1989. Melville was a lifetime member of the Masury United Methodist Church. His hobbies included his love for digital photography, Lionel trains and computers. He loved spending time with his family. His wife of 59 years, the former Ethel Racketa, whom he married July 27, 1946, passed away November 12, 2005. Surviving are: four loving daughters, Carol Blake, Warren, Ohio; Mary "Cookie" Koch and her husband Mark, Brookfield; Cindy Wesneski and her husband Jack, West Middlesex; and Kathie Johnston, Masury; five grandchildren, Mark Alan Koch and his wife Mary Jo, Puyallup, WA; Tamara Lynn Koch, Chesapeake, VA; Kendra Mardel Leeworthy and her husband Jason, Ft. Bragg, NC; Stephen Michael Dovutovich, Sharpsville; and Nicole Marie Johnston, Masury; and 4 great grandchildren, Jordan and Taylor Koch, Puyallup, WA; Logan Leeworthy, Ft. Bragg, NC; and Sasha Koch, Chesapeake, VA. Besides his wife, Melville was preceded in death by his parents and a loving daughter, Lois Johnston. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to an American Cancer Society of the donor's choice. At Melville's request, there are no calling hours. Private funeral service will be held in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon. Interment: America's Cemetery, Hermitage.
