Melissa Colleen Sims, 47, of New Castle, passed away Friday afternoon, May 23, 2025, surrounded by her family, in UPMC Jameson Hospital.

Ms. Sims was born August 29, 1977, in New Castle, a daughter of Deborah (Griffin) Bondi, and was a 1995 graduate of Lawrence County Career and Technical Center. After high school, she went on to earn her Licensed Practical Nurse degree.

She worked as an LPN at various nursing homes in the community for over 23 years. She was a generous caregiver and took great pride in caring for her patients.

In her spare time, Melissa enjoyed traveling, especially to Gatlinburg, TN, and Florida. Her family was most important to her, and she loved to have everyone together for family game night. Melissa had a unique laugh, the kind that made everyone else start laughing too. She will be remembered as a strong, independent and beautiful woman.

Melissa is survived by her mother, Deborah Bondi; two children, Austin and Izabella Sims; a brother, Eddie Ceyrolles (fiancé, Kayla Massey); two sisters, Stephanie Quigley (Tim), and Gwendelynn Ceyrolles (fiancé, Brent Putman); a niece, Lainey Ceyrolles; a nephew, Kasetyn Ceyrolles; her best friend and cousin, Nicole Simmons and her daughter Ashley; an uncle, Bucky Griffin; and her cat, Max, whom she loved to dress up.

She was preceded in death by her ex-husband, Jason Sims; maternal grandparents, Bill and Myrtle Griffin; three aunts, Jeanne Walker, Cindy Allison, and Regina Griffin; and a cousin, Michael Griffin.

In keeping with her wishes, there will be no services.
