Obituary

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday for M.E. 'Rusty' Redick, 3405 Morefield Road, Hermitage. He passed away peacefully at 12:36 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 1, 2011, at his residence. He was 75.

Rusty was born Sept. 3, 1935, in Warren, Ohio, a son of Harry E. and Helen Moeschberger Redick. He moved to Sharon in 1948 and made his home with his father and stepmother Clara Burns Redick.

He attended Sharon schools and Pennsylvania State University.

He retired from the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. He was a business agent of the International Union of Electrical Workers, Local 617.

He was a member of Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage, and belonged to the Notre Dame adoration group. Mr. Redick formerly served as a committee chairman for the Boy Scouts of America at Hickory United Methodist Church, Hermitage. In past years he had served on the board of directors of the Mercer County Information, Referral and Service Center, Inc. He was a member of the United Way of Mercer County; what was then Mercer County Vocational-Technical School, Mercer; and was a former member of the Mercer County Central Labor Council. Presently, he was a Democratic committeeman and a member of the executive committee and charter member of the Northwest Political Alliance. An avid fisherman, he was also a life member of the North American Fishing Club and the Bass Anglers Sportsman Society. He was an accomplished guitar player and, in the early 1950s, Rusty was affiliated with the Woody Woodell's Country Western Pine Hollow Jamboree known as the 'Ridden Rangers.' He belonged to the!

Sharon Westinghouse Retirees Association, the Westinghouse Veteran Employees Association and the Hickory Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6166 in Hermitage, and he was an associate member of the Fraternal Order of Police Hermitage Lodge 82. His family was the love of his life and they will miss him dearly.

His wife, the former Rita Rhodes, whom he married Jan. 26, 1957, survives at the residence. He also leaves his three sons, Dean Redick and his wife Sharon, Franklin; David Redick and his wife Barbara, Butler; and Daniel Redick and his wife Krista, Jefferson Township; his brother, Charles Redick and his wife Sandi, Temecula, Calif.; five grandchildren, Deanne and her husband Joe; and Rachel, Brian, Becky and Samantha; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Bunny Hamill.

Rusty wrote that he would like to be remembered as a no-nonsense individual with compassion and a great sense of humor. He told his family the greatest love he ever had was that of his wife and his wonderful children and grandchildren.

Service: Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday (1-5-11) in Church of Notre Dame, 2325 Highland Road, Hermitage, with the Rev. Jeffery J. Noble, pastor, as celebrant. A brief prayer service will be held at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home prior to leaving for the church.

Interment: St. Rose Cemetery, Hermitage.
