Matthew A. Stefanak of Hermitage passed away peacefully at
7:10 a.m.
Thursday, August 25, 2016, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System, after a brief illness.
He was 93.
Mr. Stefanak was born September 13, 1922, in Farrell, a son of Andrew and Mary (Tobasco) Stefanak.
He attended the former St. Ann's Parochial Grade School, Farrell, and was a 1940 graduate of Farrell High School.
He served with the U.S. Army Air Corp. during WW II.
Matt was president of Stefanak and Son's, Inc. in Farrell and later worked as a consultant for Ryan Mechanical while living in Chardon, Ohio for twenty years.
He was a member of St. Bartholomew Church, Sharpsville, and a former member of St. Ann's Church in Farrell and the Church of the Good Shepherd, West Middlesex.
He was a member of the Benevolent Protective Order of the Elks, Lodge 103, Sharon and the Knights of Columbus.
Matt enjoyed traveling and was a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
His greatest joy however, was his loving family.
Surviving are: his wife of 72 years, the former Eleanor Totea, whom he married February 16, 1944; six daughters, Cheryl A. Draskovic, Pulaski; Katherine A. "Tass" David, West Middlesex; Mary Ann "Mannie" Frey and her husband James "Skiff" , Glenview, IL; Elizabeth A. Allan and her husband Archie, Lansdale, PA; Linda A. Sommerfeld and her husband James, Sharpsville; and Maureen A. Draskovic and her husband John, Erie; two sons, Matthew A. Stefanak and his wife Sharon, Hermitage; and Mark G. Stefanak and his wife Tricia, Cleveland Ht's., Ohio; 25 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.
He also leaves two sisters, Betty Jane Sokolak, Farrell; and Helen David and her husband David David, West Middlesex; a sister-in-law, Louise Stefanak, Pulaski; and several nieces and nephews.
Matt was preceded in death by his parents; 4 brothers, Andrew Stefanak, Theodore Stefanak, Norbert "Buck" Stefanak and Phillip Stefanak, who died in infancy; a sister, Mary Ann Mihalcak; two sons-in-law, Francis David and Darrell Groce; two grandsons, Jimmy Draskovic and Patrick Allan; and a great-granddaughter, Josie Hart.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Prince of Peace Center, 502 Darr Ave., Farrell, PA 16121.
