Obituary

Maryann Mercurio Stearns of Farrell passed away peacefully at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, May 8, 2011, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System following a brief illness. She was 68.

Maryann was born on June 16, 1942 in Farrell, Pa., the daughter of Frank and Ann Weiss Papay. Her father passed away when she was an infant and her mother married John Vukovich who raised her as his daughter.

A lifelong area resident, she graduated from Farrell High School.

She was a long time member of the former Grace Lutheran Church in Farrell where she had taught Sunday school.

Maryann worked for thirty years at the Delphi Packard Electric Systems in Warren, Ohio and retired in 2000.

She enjoyed tending to her flowers and gardening and she also loved to watch the neighborhood birds enjoy her birdfeeders. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who's greatest joy was spending time with her six grandchildren.

Her first husband Joseph Fred Mercurio whom she married on May 19th 1962, passed away on October 5th 1979.

Her husband James R. Stearns whom she married on February 5th 2008 survives at home.

She also leaves her daughter April L. Ivan and her husband Joseph, a son William K. Mercurio and his wife Erika, all of Farrell, a brother, Keith Vukovich, Sharon, six grandchildren, Joseph J. Mercurio, Aisha Mercurio, Joey J. Ivan, Billy K. Mercurio Jr. , Mia M. Mercurio , and Chazz Mercurio.

In addition to her first husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a son Joseph J. Mercurio, four brothers, Frank Papay, and George, John, and Gary Vukovich.

Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Sharon Regional's Hospice and Palliative Care 2320 Highland Road, Hermitage, PA 16148.

Services: Memorial service at 5:00 p.m. Thursday in Holy Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Donald D. Hake, pastor of the church officiating.

Her memorial service will be followed by a celebratory dinner to honor a life well lived at the Sharon American Legion 1395 East State St. Sharon.
