Mary Zahuranec, 6973 Lamor Rd. (Jefferson Township) Sharpsville, PA passed away at 2:02 p.m. Saturday (8-22-09) in her residence following an extended illness. She was 85.
Mrs. Zahuranec was born October 26, 1923 in Sharon, PA a daughter of the late George and Helena Soss Popp.
She was a 1941 graduate of Farrell High School and worked at the former Sharon Transformer Division of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation for 7 years prior to her marriage.
A homemaker, she was a member of the Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage.
For many years, Mary served as a volunteer for the American Cancer Society and as a committee worker at the annual Jefferson Township Fair. She enjoyed tending to her property, crocheting and knitting. Her greatest joy, however, was the time she shared with her family, particularly her grandchildren.
Surviving are: her husband at home, Rehart Zahuranec, whom she married May 21, 1949; a daughter, Donna M. Sankey and her husband James A., Mercer; three sons, Gregory G. Zahuranec and his wife Joanne L., Jefferson Twp.; David J. Zahuranec and his wife Valerie A., Polk, PA; and William A. Zahuranec and his wife Valerie L., Lewisburg, West Virginia; ten grandchildren, Lisa, Lindsey, Baron, Curtis, Ross and Diana Zahuranec; Andrea Beraducci and her husband John; Greg Sankey and his wife Anna; and Michael and Jessica Sankey; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Mary was preceded in death by two sons who died at birth; three brothers, Mickey, Carl and John Popp; and two sisters, Millie Mikulin and Irene Yarzab.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.

Private funeral service will be held in the Clyde Jewell Memorial Chapel at Mt. Washington Cemetery, Jefferson Township, with the Rev. Dr. William P. Crooks, pastor of Trinity Presbyterian Church, Mercer, officiating.
Interment: Mt. Washington Cemetery, Jefferson Township.
