Mary Katherine "Kate" Tonty, St. John XXIII Home, Hermitage, formerly of Hadley Dr., Sharon, passed away peacefully of natural causes at 9:05 a.m. Saturday (4-23-16) in the home. She was 98.

She was born in March 23, 1918 in Sharon the daughter of Mike and Mary Mastrianni Marletto.

A lifelong Sharon Resident, she graduated from Sharon High School in 1937.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Church and their Women's Guild.

She was a 70 year member of the Catholic Daughters of America Court 507, Sharon.

In her younger years, she entertained listeners singing on WPIC's Italian hour.

A homemaker, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family.

Her husband Fred C. Tonty whom she married Jun 24, 1939, passed away on November 18, 1997.

She is survived by her four children, Fred Tonty and his wife Mary Frances, Sharon, Jim Tonty and his wife Linda, Kansas City, MO, Dolores Mauk, Champion, Oh, and Lucy Spano and her husband Vince, Warren, Oh. She also leaves her 11 grandchildren, Darla (Len) Grandy, Don (Deana) Tonty, Lori (Sean) Davis, Ron (Sheila) Wiley, Adam (Sara)  Tonty, Theresa Giglio, Linda Wiley, Anthony Spano, Michele (Keith)  Hawn, Monica (Scott) Blews, Valerie (Mike) Harper, 18 great grandchildren plus one soon to arrive. She leaves a sister, Clementine Ceacer Rossi, Columbus, OH, a brother, Frank Marletto, Hubbard, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Mary Marletto, and a sister Grace Smeraglia, and a brother Dom "Patsy" Marletto.

Calling hours: 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday ( 4-26-16 ) in the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory Inc. 1090 E. State St. Sharon.

Services: 10:00 a.m. Wednesday ( 4-27-16 ) in St. Joseph's Church with the Rev. Thomas J. Whitman, Pastor as celebrant.

Interment: St. Rose Cemetery, Hermitage.
