Mary Sophia Bovard Tencer, 94, of 113 W. McMurray Road, McMurray, Pa., formerly a lifelong resident of New Castle, passed away the afternoon of Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013, in Manor Care, McMurray. Mrs. Tencer was born Sept. 19, 1918, in New Castle, a daughter of Alexander and Caroline Rezenik Myrta. She attended New Castle Catholic schools. Mary retired from Shenango China as a decorator after 20 years of employment. Mrs. Tencer enjoyed playing cards, puzzles and dancing. She was a member of Third Presbyterian Church. Her first husband, Arthur Bovard, who she married in 1939, passed away in 1964 after celebrating 25 years of marriage. Mary's second husband, Adam Tencer, whom she married in 1965, passed away in 1993 after 27 years of marriage. Surviving are a daughter, Faye and her husband, Bob Rowe, of Freedom, Pa.; four grandchildren, Robert Rowe of New York City, N.Y., Kristin (Michael) Klugman of Goshen, N.Y., Erik (Sharon) Rowe of Orchard Park, N.Y., and Colleen (David) Morris of Mars, Pa. She was the proud great-grandmother of Olivia, Ella and Noah Klugman, Logan and Ethan Rowe, and Ruby and Emmett Morris. In addition to her parents and two husbands, Mary was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Frank Myrta; and two sisters, Josephine Szelast and Verna Gostyla. Calling hours are 3 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, 111 W. Falls St. A memorial service will be conducted at 4 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Michael Spicuzza, pastor of Third Presbyterian Church, officiating. Inurnment will take place in Castle View Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
