Obituary

Mary Catherine Miller, Sharon, passed away peacefully at 6:15 a.m. Saturday (7-9-11) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System of natural causes. She was 94.

Mary was born on January 9, 1917 in New York City the daughter of Irish immigrants, Malachy and Catherine (Casey) Casey. Mary's Mother and brother passed away during the the influenza pandemic of 1918 and her father moved her to Sharon at the age of three. She was raised by the late Edward and Margaret Wiesen.

She graduated from the former Sacred Heart School in Sharon and was a member of Sharon High Schools graduating class of 1935.

In her early years, she worked at the former Sharon Transformer Division of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation. She later gained employment at the former Sharon Store where she worked in their credit department for more than twenty years. She was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Church, Sharon, and belonged to the Sacred Heart School Mother's Club. She was a 50 year member of the Catholic Daughters of America, Court 507, Sharon.

She volunteered her time as a member of John XXIII Home's Auxiliary in Hermitage. She enjoyed bowling, flowers, sewing, and a good game of euchre with friends. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, and will be remembered by her family as a master baker. She was known for her lemon meringue pie, and her bread and rolls.

Her husband, Ralph F. Miller whom she married on April 30, 1940, passed away on October 27, 1999.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Ann Miller with whom she made her home, R. Jerome 'Jerry' Miller and his wife Denise, Farrell, and Jon 'Jack' Miller and his wife Nancy, Goose Creek , SC; her half sister Josephine Muska, Springfield, MA; three grandchildren, Bryan Miller and his wife Rhonda, Nicholas Miller and his wife Melanie, Luke Miller and his fiancé Jennifer Baxter, three step grandchildren Derek Friedrichs and his wife Peggy, Kurt Friedrichs and his wife Kristy, and Marc Friedrichs and his wife April; one great granddaughter Madelyn Miller, and 8 step great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, her parents, and foster parents, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter Virginia Miller, and infant brother and a half brother Mac Casey.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made to one of the following charities, Sacred Heart Church, Community Food Warehouse, or to the Prince of Peace Center. Envelopes for these charities may be obtained through the funeral home.

Calling hours: 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday (7-12-11) in the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory Inc. 1090 E. State St. Sharon.

Services: Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday (7-13-11) in the Church of the Sacred Heart with Rev. Henry C. Andrae, pastor of Sacred Heart Church, and Msgr. Salvatore P. Mitchell concelebrating.

Interment: St. Mary's Cemetery. Hermitage.
