Mary Katherine (Prezgay) Masotto, of Hermitage, passed on into Glory at 7 p.m. Friday, October 19, 2018, in Sharon Regional Medical Center after a year battle with pancreatic cancer. She was 83.
Mrs. Masotto was born May 29, 1935, in Sharon, a daughter of the late Nicholas and Frances (Novosel) Prezgay. She was a lifelong area resident and a 1953 graduate of Farrell High School.
She married Peter John Masotto on August 7, 1954.
Mary retired as an inspector from Packard Electric Corp., Warren, Ohio, where she was employed for 31 years. Following her retirement, she worked with her husband for Imperial Services for 18 years.
Mary lived an active and fruitful life. She loved God and her family and was a member of St. Anthony's Church, Sharon. She was proud of her Croatian heritage and enjoyed making palechinka and traveling to Croatia, which she did on three occasions. Mary and her husband Peter, whom she loved dearly, worked together building and renovating houses. She lovingly referred to him as "her rock." Mary enjoyed spending time with her family, particularly playing cards on Saturday nights, and writing poems for her husband, children, grandchildren and other family members. She volunteered weekly at Joshua's Haven in Sharon and enjoyed the company of her friends in the Red Hat Society and "Girls Night Out."
Mary is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Peter Masotto, at home; three daughters, Sherry Masotto Swetz and her husband John, of Hermitage; Zora Detwiler and her husband Eric, of West Middlesex; and Annette Bermudez and her husband Domingo, also of Hermitage; six grandchildren, who affectionately called her "Baba," Daniel Bobbie and his wife Renee, of Sharpsville; Mark Bobbie, of Hermitage; Domenic Bermudez and his fiancé Kristen Dorsey, of Akron, Ohio; Rena Bermudez, of Hermitage; Devin Detwiler, of Charlotte, N.C.; and Erika Detwiler, of West Middlesex; and seven great grandchildren, Myah Bobbie, Riley Baker, Darby Jones and her fiancé, Daniel Bartel; Kennedy Jones and Jack Houser, all of Sharpsville; and Victor Bermudez and Joshua Bermudez, both of Akron. She also leaves four brothers, Michael Prezgay and his wife Mary Ann, of Hermitage; Frank Prezgay and his wife Sandy, of Las Vegas; Walter Prezgay, of Sharon; and Joe Prezgay and his wife Diane, of Hermitage; a sister, Zora Koukis, of Farrell; a sister-in-law, Agnes Prezgay, of Farrell; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her parents, Mary was preceded in death by a grandson, Dillion Detwiler; three great grandchildren who died in infancy, Dahlia Bobbie, Samuel Bobbie and Magnolia Bobbie; three brothers, William Prezgay, Steve Prezgay and Albert Prezgay; one sister, Barbara Passalinqua; three sisters-in-law, Dolores Prezgay, Betsy Prezgay and Joyce Prezgay; and two brothers-in-law, Steve Koukis and Robert Passalinqua.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Anthony's Church, 804 Idaho St.; or Joshua's Haven, 1230 Stambaugh Ave., P.O. Box 128, both Sharon, PA 16146.
Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 23, 2018, in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 24, 2018, in St. Anthony's Church, Sharon, with Rev. Matthew Ruyechan, pastor, as celebrant.
Interment: Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Hermitage.
