Mary Elizabeth Humber, 86, of New Castle, passed away Friday, August 7, 2020, in UPMC Jameson Hospital, following a brief illness.
Mrs. Humber was born December 1, 1933, in Lynchburg, VA, a daughter of Addie and Verlin (Fuqua) Thurman. After being raised in Lynchburg, Mary and her family relocated to Cambridge, OH, where she graduated from Cambridge High School in 1952.
For many years, she worked as a home health aide providing care to senior citizens at their residence.
Mary was of the Baptist Faith.
She was an avid collector and purveyor of many things, most notably, watches and antique dolls. Mary also enjoyed fishing, especially at Brittain Lake located on the campus of Westminster College.
She is survived by a son, Carl Richardson and his wife, Barbara, of Akron, OH; two sisters, Edna Mae "Peggy" Patton, of Sanford, FL; and Bertha Davis and her husband, Bernard, of New Castle; a brother, Robert "Sonny" Thurman and his wife, Virginia, of Farrell, PA; and three granddaughters, Tessa (Kenny) Carter, Acasha Richardson, and Kelli Richardson-Howard, all of Akron; five great- grandchildren; and a host nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents and a brother.
Calling hours will be 3 to 5 p.m. Friday (8-14-20) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 111 W. Falls St., New Castle.
Home Going service will be held privately.
