Obituary

Mary Magdalene Edell Horvath, 1619 Hall Ave., Sharpsville, passed away peacefully after an extended illness at 9 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16, 2012 in the comfort of her home surrounded by her family. She was 93.

Mrs. Horvath was born Saturday, October 19, 1918, in Brookfield a daughter of the late Frank and Theresa Bogner Edell.

A lifelong area resident, she was a 1937 alumna of Brookfield High School.

Prior to her marriage, she was employed at the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corporation as a file clerk.

Mary was a dedicated homemaker and a lifelong member of Church of the Sacred Heart, Sharon. Mrs. Horvath was a member of the F.H. Buhl Club, Sharon; the Mercer County Senior Center Happy Needle Group; and the Bundle Babies Ministry, Sharon, where she enjoyed crafts, needlework and crocheting. She was an avid reader of novels and enjoyed spending time with her friends and family. She also enjoyed extensive traveling and cruising with her husband.

Her husband, John Edward Horvath, whom she married October 11, 1941, passed away March 22, 2008.

Surviving are: two daughters, Sandra L. Marshall and her husband James, Clark; and Susan M. McBride and her husband John, Venice, Florida; a son-in-law, Edwin Sowers, Conneaut Lake; seven grandchildren, Tammy Meyerowich, Heidi AbiNader, Karen Vakkas, Eric Sowers, Jess Sowers, Jeremy McBride and Jessica McBride; eleven great grandchildren, Ryan, Jamie and Eric Meyerowich; Ben and Lily AbiNader; Elias and Riley Vakkas; Dylan and Cooper Sowers; and Kate and Paige Sowers. She also leaves three sisters, Eva Busch, Sharon; Betty Terpack and her husband Charles, Sharpsville; and Helen Kiefer and her husband Robert, Florida; a brother, George Edell and his wife Mildred, Hermitage; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathleen Ann Sowers; three brothers, Frank, Jr., Paul and Joseph Edell; a sister, Frances Evans; and sisters-in-law, Eva Edell and Marilyn Jean Edell.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Brookfield Branch Library, 7032 Grove St., Brookfield, Ohio 44403.

Calling hours will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012, in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon, PA.
