Mary E. Guthrie of Sharon passed away peacefully of natural causes at 4:35 p.m. Sunday, October 9, 2016, in her residence. She was 93.

Mrs. Guthrie was born January 10, 1923, in Sharon, a daughter of Wade H. and Bertha E. Baker Jones. A lifelong area resident, she was a 1940 graduate of Sharon High School.

Although a homemaker most of her life, years early, Mary worked as a police officer for the Sharon Police Dept. serving as a crossing guard and meter maid.

Mary was of the Baptist Faith.

She enjoyed researching the genealogy of the Guthrie family and playing cards and bingo. A true matriarch, she loved spending time with her family and will be dearly missed by all of them.

Her husband, Robert Ralph Guthrie, whom she married September 4, 1940, passed away November 22, 2010.

Surviving are: three sons, Robert Allen Guthrie and his wife Teryl; and Frank Guthrie, all Hermitage; and John Guthrie, Sharon; three daughters, Joyce Knapp and her husband James, Sharon; Mary Ann Pepe, Scottsdale, AZ; and Judith Shaffer and her husband Dennis, Hermitage; a brother, Harry Jones; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Jones, both Sharon; 15 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; and 8 great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Mary was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Dorothy Louise Guthrie; a grandson, Robert Joseph Guthrie; a daughter-in-law, Marge Guthrie; and five brothers, William, Daniel, James Philip, Richard E. and Nelson Jones.

Calling hours will be 3 p.m. until the time of service on Thursday (10-13-16) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.

Funeral service will be at 5 p.m., in the funeral home, with Rev. Wayne Sutton, pastor of First Baptist Church, Sharpsville, officiating.

Interment: Oakwood Cemetery, Hermitage.
