Obituary

Mary Lois Martin Greene, 97, of Boalsburg, PA, formerly of 3125 Old Pittsburgh Road, New Castle, PA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 13, 2017, in Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College, PA.

Mrs. Greene was born November 6, 1919, in Leetsdale, PA, a daughter of the late Frederick L. and Ora P. Martin.

An Amway Distributor for more than 50 years, Mary was also employed by the Bell Telephone Co. and later owned and operated Shenango Kindergarten in her residence for 9 years.

She was a charter member of the Independent Methodist Church, New Castle, PA, where she served on numerous committees.

Mary was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Vice-President of the PTA and Chairman of American Field Service. She was instrumental in the organization and founding of the former Shenango Township Progressive Council, and volunteered at the Shenango Girl Scouts, where she served on the Board of Directors. Mary was also a member of the Lawrence County Historical Society, the Crescent-Shousetown Area Historical Society and was a past President of P.S.P.E. Auxiliary of the Midwestern Chapter. She was active in the Garden Club, volunteered for Meals on Wheels and co-founded the former Ladies Auxiliary B.P.O.E. #69.

Her first husband, Robert R. Greene, whom she married, July 17, 1943, passed away in September 1996. Her second husband, Jack L. Kelly, whom she married, February 24, 2002, passed away in July 2011.

Mary is survived by six daughters, Roberta G. Macler, her husband Peter, Canyon Lake, TX; Carol L. Cherby, her husband Anthony, Mays Landing, NJ; Lois K. Greene-Sellers; Bette L. Abrams, her husband Bruce, Guilford, VT; Pamela A. Greene, New Castle, PA; and Patrice E. Greene, her husband Dave Hoover, Monterey, TN; one son, Robert R. Greene, Jr., Madison, IN; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husbands, Mary was preceded in death by three brothers, Fred L. Martin, Jr.; Charles B. Martin; and William L. Martin.

There will be no calling hours.

There will be no funeral service.

Interment will be in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park, Rochester, PA.
