Obituary

Mary D. Gibbons, 342 Oak St., Sharpsville, passed away peacefully at 6 a.m. Sunday (3-7-10) in her home after a brief illness. She was 91.

Mrs. Gibbons was born November 9, 1918 in Jerome (Somerset County), PA a daughter of the late Mark and Mary Rusnock Bayuk.

With her family, she moved to Greenville as a young girl and was a graduate of St. Michael's School.

Mary was employed at the former Peabody Dry Cleaning in Greenville before she married James E. Gibbons on August 5, 1950 in St. Michael's Church, Greenville, by the late Rev. James Kerins. She then moved to Sharpsville with her husband and worked at the former Sharpsville Dry Cleaning for a brief period.

Mary was an active member of St. Bartholomew's Church, Sharpsville, where she attended daily Mass for many years. A devout catholic with a strong faith in God, she made her Cursillo and participated in the RENEW activities at the church.

A homemaker, Mary was an accomplished seamstress and made many of her family's clothing and costumes. She was an avid reader and enjoyed playing bingo and bowling as pastimes. Mary was extremely devoted to her family, particularly her grandchildren, and cherished the time she shared with them.

Surviving are: her husband, James E. Gibbons, at home; a daughter, Maureen E. Wilson, Sharpsville; a son, Patrick F. Gibbons and his wife Betsy, Rocky River, Ohio; two grandchildren, Shana Wilson, a graduate student at Western Kentucky University, Bowling Green, KY and formerly of Sharpsville; and Jonathan Wilson, also of Sharpsville; three sisters, Agnes Daverio, Forest Hills section of Pittsburgh; Dorothy Holiga and her husband John, Pymatuning Twp.; and Frances "Franie" Visniski and her husband Joseph, Brookfield, Ohio; and two brothers, Raymond Bayuk; and Paul Bayuk and his wife Joyce, all Greenville.

Besides her parents, Mary was preceded in death by two sisters, Anne Staynoff and Rita Snyder; and four brothers, John, Mark, Frank and Joe Bayuk.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the elevator fund c/o St. Bartholomew Church, 311 W. Ridge Ave., Sharpsville, PA 16150.

Calling hours will be from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday (3-10-10) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.

Closing prayers will be 9:20 a.m. Thursday (3-11-10) in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Bartholomew Church, Sharpsville, with the Rev. Matthew Kujawinski, pastor, as celebrant.

Interment: St. Rose Cemetery, Hermitage.
