Mary Ellen Ebert of Hermitage passed away at 6:45 a.m. Tuesday, June 05, 2018, in The Ridgewood at Shenango Valley. She was 96.
Mrs. Ebert was born Ella Morse Colt, on March 30, 1922, in Pittsburgh, PA, a daughter of Harry C. and Margaret M. (Morse) Colt. She was a 1940 graduate of Sharon High School. Mary Ellen was employed for 24 years in the plant printing department at the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp.
Mary Ellen was a member of the Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage, where she participated in the funeral brunch ministry, preparing and serving funeral luncheons. She was a 75 year member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court # 507, Sharon, and served as a volunteer at the Prince of Peace Center, Farrell.
Mary Ellen served as judge of elections in Hermitage for many years.
Until recently, she participated in a 500 card club with girls from her 1940 graduating class, and also bowled in two leagues at Hickory Bowl, Hermitage, for several years.
Mary Ellen enjoyed reading, crocheting, knitting and sewing , as well as completing crossword and jigsaw puzzles.
Mary Ellen was family oriented and family always came first. She enjoyed taking bus trips to the casino and going on cruises. Her fondest memories included a vacation in Ireland and visiting her son and his family in California.
Her husband, Dean "Joe" Ebert, whom she married on June 26, 1946, passed away on January 24, 1990.
Surviving are: a daughter, Patty Brady, Hermitage; two sons, Mark (Debbie) Ebert, Pacific Palisades, CA; and Terry (Margaret) Ebert, Howland, OH; seven grandchildren, Sarah Brady; Laura (Brandon) Pierson; Katie, Lizzie and Becca Ebert; and Matt and Dan Ebert; two great grandchildren, Molly Ella and Nolan James Pierson; a brother, A. Edward (Anne) Colt, Hermitage; a sister-in-law, Eleanor Smith, Virginia; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her parents; a son-in-law, Quentin "Sparky" Brady; three sisters, June Tinsley, Catherine "Snook" Friedrich and Margaret Holtzclaw; four brothers, E.H. "Spark", William, James and Daniel Colt; two nephews, William Friedrich and Edward Colt; and a niece, Lori (Colt) Davis.
The family suggest memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Mary Ellen's family would like to thank the staff at Ridgewood and Kindred Hospice for the excellent care and compassion for their mother during the time she was in their care.
Calling hours will be 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday (06/09/2018) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 East State St., Sharon.
Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday in the Church of Notre Dame, 2325 Highland Rd., Hermitage, with the Very Rev. Richard Allen, E.V., pastor, as celebrant.
