Mary Elizabeth Changoway, 95, of New Castle, passed away peacefully the morning of December 5, 2016, surrounded by her family at the VNA Inpatient Hospice, Butler, Pa.

Mary was born August 28, 1921, in New Castle to the late Frank and Geraldine Gay White Porter.

A lifelong area resident, she attended schools in New Castle.

Mary was an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church for over 50 years. She enjoyed bowling, bingo, vacationing at Geneva-on-the-Lake and spoiling her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Despite a difficult Depression Era upbringing, Mary was a generous and giving person who will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Her beloved husband, Andrew Changoway, whom she married August 1, 1938, passed away January 13, 1994.

Mary is survived by one daughter, Jean Carbone and her husband, Thomas, of New Castle; one son, William F. Changoway and his wife, Eileen, of Edinburg; 17 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Andrew L. Changoway; one daughter, Shirley Arrow; and one brother, Willis Frank Porter.

Calling hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday (12-7-16) in the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory Inc. 111 W. Falls St.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday (12-8-16) in the funeral home by the Rev. William R. LaVelle Jr., Pastor of Wesley United Methodist Church.

Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.
