Mary Ann Cavalier, 440 Kittery Ridge Dr., New Castle, PA passed away at 9:31 p.m. Saturday (2-28-09) in UPMC Shadyside, Pittsburgh, PA. She was 70.
Mrs. Cavalier was born March 20, 1938 in New Castle a daughter of the late Edward J. and Frances Burns Sheridan.
She attended the former St. Mary's Parochial Grade School and was a graduate of New Castle High School.
Mary Ann retired in 2000 from the Pennsylvania Department of Health, Division of Vital Records in New Castle where she was a clerk for twenty-five years. She was also the secretary-treasurer of AFSCME, local # 2353, for ten years and the Union Steward for twenty years.
Mary Ann was a member of Mary, Mother of Hope Parish, St. Mary's Church and a former member of St. Joseph The Worker Church.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, particularly her grandchildren; and participating in church activities.
Mary Ann was extremely proud of her Irish heritage and will be remembered by many for her numerous acts of charity.
She is survived by her husband, Richard E. Cavalier, whom she married August 22, 1959; two daughters, Jan Cavalier; and Beth Caravella and her husband Jim, all New Castle; two sons, Rick Cavalier and his wife Beth, Spotsylvania, VA; and Chris Cavalier and his wife Susie, Garner, NC; three grandchildren, Aleigha Cavalier, with whom she lived; Carley Caravella, New Castle; and Amber Wilson, Garner, NC; a grandson, Chase Caravella, New Castle; and a brother, John J. 'Jack' Sheridan and his wife Josephine, Morristown, TN.
Besides her parents, Mary Ann was preceded in death by a son, Scott Joseph Cavalier; and two brothers, Timothy Michael Sheridan, who died in infancy; and Edward E. Sheridan.
Calling hours will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday (3-03-09) in the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 111 W. Falls St., New Castle.
A procession will leave the funeral home at 8:30 A.M. on Wednesday for St. Mary's Church where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9:00 A.M. by the Rev. Victor J. Molka Jr., Pastor.
Internment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.
