Obituary

Mary Jude Black, 61, of Sharon, passed away peacefully early Thursday morning, October 30, 2025, surrounded by her family at UPMC Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh.

Born September 27, 1964, in Pittsburgh, Mary was the daughter of Daniel and Mary "Joanne" (Shatto) Duffy. She graduated from Kennedy Christian High School in 1983.

Mary's life was full of big love, new adventures, and loud laughter—always the loudest laugh, matched only by those she passed it down to. She loved spending time on the water, boating with her husband and family, especially when the fish were biting. She found joy in discovering new local events and taking girls' trips with her friends.

Her grandbabies were her entire world, and she theirs. For them, her backyard was epic—a place where the door was always open and the fun never stopped. Between the pool, trampoline, garden, and her latest project found online, there was always something happening at Grandma's. Her home wasn't just hers—it was the family and neighborhood gathering spot, open to everyone at any time.

She leaves behind her husband of 35 years, David E. Black, whom she married on June 2, 1990. Mary is also survived by her daughter, Nicole Unrue (John McCullough) of Hermitage; her son, Derek Black (Ashley) of Transfer; and her three grandbabies, Imogen McCullough, and Carson and Calvin Black. She is also survived by her brothers, Tim Duffy (Sandra) of West Middlesex, and Brian Duffy (Denise) of Alliance, OH; along with a long list of nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins, friends, and neighbors—many of whom are left wondering, "Who will cut my hair!?"

Mary was preceded in death by several deeply loved family members and friends, including her parents and her sister, Nancy Duffy.

In keeping with her wishes, there will be no public services. The family will honor her privately and continue to carry her love and laughter with them every day.

She'd be happy to know she never lost her summer tan.
