Mary Lou Ayers, Sharon, passed away at 11:08 p.m. Thursday, April 5, 2012, in Northside Hospital, Youngstown, Ohio. She was 88.
Mrs. Ayers was born July 2, 1923 in Sharon a daughter of Carl N. and Isabelle A. Kahl Wiesen.
She was a lifelong area resident and a 1941 alumna of Sharon High School.
Mary Lou retired in 1983 from the former General American Transportation Corp., Masury, Ohio, where she was an executive secretary for 41 years.
She was an active member of St. Joseph Church, Sharon. Mary Lou was a life master at bridge and co-chairman of Bridge Marathon Charities, which was formerly known as Mercer County Crippled Children Bridge Marathon. She was also a member of several bridge clubs. An avid golfer, she was a member of Oak Tree Country Club and the Thursday golf league at Yankee Run Golf Course. She also enjoyed bowling and was a longtime member of the Tuesday Early Bird Bowling League at Thornton Hall Lanes in Sharon. Mary Lou was a member and past president of the American Business Women Association, Sharon chapter.
Her husband, John "Jack" C. Ayers, whom she married June 14, 1943, passed away April 22, 2008.
Surviving are: three sisters, Elizabeth A. "Betty" Morgenstern, Warren, Ohio; Alice R. Monson, Hurst, Texas; and Dorothy M. O'Hara and her husband Philip, Southington, Ohio; a brother, Raymond A. Wiesen and his wife Ruth, Dayton, Ohio; two sisters-in-law, Carmen Wiesen, Tampa, Florida; and Helen Wiesen, Albuquerque, New Mexico; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, Mary Lou was preceded in death by five brothers, Richard J., Charles N., Gerald E., Herbert J. and John "Jack" M. Wiesen.
Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Monday, April 9, 2012, in St. Joseph Church, Sharon, with the Rev. Glenn R. Whitman, pastor, as celebrant.
Family will receive friends one hour before the Mass in the gathering room at St. Joseph Church.
