Obituary

Martha Lou Crothers, 81, of New Castle passed away at 7:30 a.m. Sept. 26, 2015, at Edison Manor. She was born March 6, 1934, in Unity Township, Westmoreland County, a daughter of the late Robert Rugh and Sarah Ruth Arnett Truxal. She graduated from Hurst High School, Mount Pleasant, Pa., in 1952. Martha was a homemaker and also worked as a nurse's aide for 10 years at the former Hillview Manor Nursing Home. She was a member of New Castle Church of God, where she was the secretary and attendance director for many years and was affectionately known as "Mama Lou." Her first husband, Kay C. Hearn, whom she married in 1953, passed away May 22, 1964. Her second husband, Harry M. Crothers, whom she married May 1, 1968, passed away April 16, 1994. She is survived by two daughters, Roxana Hearn Altman of Ellwood City and Rhonda Hearn Shuler and her husband, Frank, of Union Township; two sons, Roger C. Hearn and his wife, Audry, and Randy K. Hearn and his wife, Holly, both of New Castle; eight grandchildren, Matthew and Jonathan Hearn, Clinton and Gregory Altman, Candi Hearn Juriasingani and her husband, Sunil, Frank Shuler III and Sydney Shuler, and Angelina Annie Shuler; and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and her husbands, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Eugene and Robert Truxal; a sister-in-law, Gail Truxal, and a son-in-law, Tom Altman. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, 2015, in the New Castle Church of God, conducted by Pastor Ron Mounts. Interment will be in Americas Cemetery, Hermitage. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, 111 W. Falls St. The family suggests memorial contributions be made in her name to New Castle Church of God, 905 Highland Ave. New Castle, Pa. 16101.
