Obituary

Marjorie Pearce Direnzo, New Castle, PA passed away peacefully of natural causes at 7:15 p.m. Friday (1-28-11) in Jameson Care Center, New Castle. She was 83.

Mrs. Direnzo was born September 7, 1927 in Farrell, PA the daughter of William Wade and Annabelle Diamond Pearce. She attended schools in Farrell and New Castle and graduated from New Castle High School in 1946.

She began working for the Bell Telephone Company when she was 17 years old as a telephone operator and retired as a supervisor in 1990 with over 40 years of service. She was a member and past recording secretary of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, local 313 and served as a Union Representative for Bell. She also belonged to the Telephone Pioneers Club. In her early years, she volunteered with the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) chapter 125, New Castle.

She belonged to the AMVETS Auxiliary Post 281, The People Concerned for the Unborn Child (PCUC), the Blue Army, the Red Hat Society, all New Castle. She was also a member, Past President, and current Vice President of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary Aerie #455 and the Retired Eagles Activities Club (REAC). In her spare time, she enjoyed bowling and traveling to local casinos to play the slots with her sisters. She was a member of Mary Mother of Hope Parish, New Castle.

Her husband, Dominic Direnzo, whom she married August 30, 1958, passed away July 13, 1985.

She is survived by a daughter, Jeanne Kerr, New Castle and her son, Anthony D. Direnzo; a son James Direnzo and his wife Barbara, Butler, PA and their two sons, James A. and Andrew D. Direnzo. Also surviving are three sisters, Mary Hogue, Carolyn Pearce, and Virginia Hamilton and her husband, Richard, all New Castle; two brothers, James Pearce and his wife Marie of Murrieta, Califoria, and G. Richard Pearce and his wife Gloria of Cerritos, California.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles 'Chuck' Pearce, John 'Jack' Pearce and William 'Bill' Pearce and a sister Dorothy Carey.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Jameson Hospice of Lawrence County, 1000 South Mercer Street, New Castle, 16101.

Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 on Wednesday (2-2-11) in the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 111 West Falls Street, New Castle.

Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Thursday (2-3-11) in St. Mary's Church with Rev. Victor J. Molka as the Celebrant.
